Default Stephen King to Publish 'Dr. Sleep,' a Sequel to 'The Shining'

In case there are any Stephen King fans out there, here is an article I came upon today. I read THE SHINING way back before it was made into a movie and it scared the daylights out of me. I was single, a high school teacher living in an apartment and spooked easy. I loved to read before I went to bed. Then, deep into the night hours, I'd hear something....like the refrigerator making a noise. I'd wake up and lay there quietly in bed, with "What was THAT?" rolling around in my head....

I'm excited about the sequel.

I've still yet to finish the book Duma Key, I'm on about page 400, about a fictional SW Florida island but based on real life inspiration from him living on Casey Key at times down here. I've driven through there and it's beautiful and visited the other end where the public beaches are many times since living here. But when I think of Casey Key, I think of Stephen King and Duma Key.

"The water runs faster now. Soon come the rapids."

In Stephen's afterthought at the end of the book he writes-
"I have taken liberties with the geography of Florida's west coast, and with it's history, as well."

And in the book he references so many local things around SW FL, it is funny. From Sarasota all the way down to Port Charlotte. Like I never knew The Bone was an actual classic rock station here until I moved here and heard it announced on the radio one day and I busted out laughing. So the local things he talks of in the book in character, they are real in many instances. I do wish he'd make a film about it. It'd be interesting I think to watch.

I am behind on his newer works, but will definitely be interested in this sequel. I did read Duma Key and enjoyed it. There is one part in particular that scared me to pieces.

I LOVED Duma Key - I can't say it's a favourite King story because it's impossible for me to pick one as I love each and every one of his books equally.

But regarding making a film of this one - I'm not sure. His books are so wonderful but all the film versions never quite live up to expectations and the stories often take quite a different route.

Yeah but sometimes his movies are really good too... It would be interesting for me if they were to film here because I live here and am familiar with so much, so the visual aspect of a film version would be appealing if they ever shot one here. SW FL and the water and art scene and ritzy people, well that's all very true around here And goes right along with the book, so he's not making that part up one bit. King's lived here and done his homework for that book. I'd love to see what a film version would turn out like.

Have any of you read Joe Hill?

(From Wikipedia)

Joseph Hillstrom King (born June 4, 1972, Hermon, Maine), better known by the pen name Joe Hill, is an American author and comic book writer. He has published two novels—Heart Shaped Box and Horns—and a collection of short stories entitled 20th Century Ghosts. He is also the author of the graphic novel series Locke & Key. Hill's parents are authors Stephen and Tabitha King.

When he began writing, King was well-aware of the inevitable comparisons that would arise between his own work and that of his father, Stephen -- the world's best-selling and, arguably, most-recognized living novelist. Stephen King had himself used a pen-name, Richard Bachman, after he had become well-established, explaining later in the short essay, "Why I was Bachman" that he felt he had to know whether he could "re-achieve" success as an author purely through the quality of his writing, as opposed to what perceived as the "brand" that had become established through his own name. Joseph King chose to take the same approach; although many readers (and most reviewers) are now aware of the connection, his fiction has been widely praised, and a number of critics have stressed their own objectivity and lack of preconceptions when reviewing his works.

Kind of looks like a chip off the old block, don't he?

I absolutely LOVED 1408. Friends of mine though it was horrible, especially John Cusak's acting but I thought it was fantastic. Talk about a mind f**k!! The way the "room" played on his fears was so unbelieveably creepy and to me, genuinely frightening. That scene towards the end with the nooses in every room completely scared the crap out of me, to the point of turning it off!! I had to rerent and watch it again and this time I was able to watch the whole thing!
