Okay..

so..

then why didn't we just do one poll, where everyone voted for their favorite track, and then have been done with it?

If that's how we're determining the winner in this poll, then why didn't we just do that from the beginning. It's like changing the rules at the end of the game.

It honestly doesn't matter a jot, but I thought it would come down to a head-to-head between the last two tracks. And that there would have to be tie-breaker to separate AL and YMBTO. I can't work out how, but might it have influenced voting if we'd all known it would end at this point?

I am fully aware that the more I type, the more it looks like I really care. Going to stop now. But I still do wish I'd understood the rules.

Um well. I admit not understanding the rules, because I wasn't paying attention. But wasn't there some clue in the other polls we did that this is the way it ends? I mean, didn't that happen with the other albums too?

It's really quite clear. There were four songs - the two songs with the most votes were to be eliminated - one got 43, and two got 40 each, resulting in a tie. Thus all three were eliminated leaving only one track left.

I suppose we could have only eliminated For What It's Worth only, and put You May Be The One and Annabel Lee up for a tie-breaker round, but what's the point really in delaying the results for several days only to come to the same result? In the end, the winner was going to be Moonlight. We all know it. There is no way that either of those songs were going to come out on top of Moonlight.

But with that kind of logic, we could have just done one poll, saying vote for your favorite.. and tallied them up according to how many votes they got, and ranked them that way? Right?

I thought the whole point of a 'survivor' thing was to see who would be the last one standing. 'Cause with this type of thing there's a lot of strategy and stuff to keep certain songs in as long as possible, which definitely influences how people vote..

Edit: I, too, should probably stop replying because it probably seems like I'm all up in arms about it. I don't really care haha I was just looking forward to an intense final round, to kind of complete the experience

Oh dear...one song got most of the votes while two others "tied"...making Moonlight the clear winner, no need to drag it out further. The rules are simple...vote two tracks out of the remaining tracks...whenever there is a tie both tracks are removed from the poll.

To your first question: Yes, absolutely. In the end the results would likely be the same, with the odd exception every few years. In the years I've been posting on this or other boards, the same songs almost always win these games. It's predictable from the first round. Wild Heart wins Wild Heart; No Spoken Word or I Can't Wait wins RAL, Bella Donna or Edge wins Bella Donna; Blue Denim always wins Street Angel. TISL wins the TISL survivor. This year, I think How Still My Love won for Bella Donna which is just weird - tantamount to the U.S. electing a non-white self-professed-atheist lesbian President. It's that odd, in my opinion.

In the end, strategy is usually pointless. I believe that none (or very very few) of the folks who fought to keep You May Be The One - myself included - were going to pick it to win over Moonlight, because Moonlight is like Dreams or Silver Springs or Sara - it's an instant classic in the grand tradition of Stevie songs.

I'd love to be wrong, but I don't think I am.

What this really is about is that YMBTO fans wanted a chance to try to take it all the way to the win. I don't think this is about anyone caring that "Annabel Lee" or "For What It's Worth" might have got 'robbed'. (I don't think YMBTO got robbed either, just pointing out that there's a group of exceptionally passionate people about that song). All that being said, I don't really see the point of dragging it out either, so YAY "Moonlight"!

Would How Still My Love be that much of an upset? Maybe the Highwayman or After the Glitter Fades, but surely How Still My Love is just a Christian, lesbian President.

Yeah I think we've seen ties removed before haven't we?
