Well, I agree in a sense. I don't want her to adapt the poem and change gender or anything, but I think it's one of those things you can be deeply inspired by but not exactly want to hear with music. Just because the lines are sing-songy doesn't mean they should be sung.

I think you can take the spark of an idea and incorporate it, which is what Lindsey did with A Dream Within a Dream, but not all good poems make good lyrics -- and vice versa.

Granted, the drugs were there throughout, but the songs you mention, especially the true classics like Dreams, Sisters, Sara, Storms were before the drugs really took over. And Stevie herself has said that Jimmy really disliked her using drugs and she tried hard to cut back while they were together (Edge of 17).....

me too, this is definitely an album, where the 2nd half is stronger than the first, which I actually love.

I simply cannot see where the love for this song comes from. I am baffled by both the song and the reaction to it.

Just opinion, is all.
I don't think it's irrelevant - I relate to a lot of poems/songs that are written from a man's perspective about a woman.. love is love. If she was inspired/touched by it, then how could it possibly be irrelevant to her? And it being from that perspective doesn't mean it is inappropriate.. she's just singing from someone elses point of view, or maybe her own, depending on who Annabel Lee is to her personally.

I'll belt out 'Yesterday' and keep the female pronouns in tact, because that's how it was written and who am I to change it? The meaning is still the same.

Yup, I agree 100%. Love is love indeed.

This is interesting, and I'm wondering why that atmospheric disconnect didn't occur to me before. What you have in Stevie's track is a great pop hook applied to something altogether much more angry and twisted. I'm going to have to watch this doesn't spoil AL for me!

I don't think it will, though. I think what I immediately connected with in the track was the coda, from the drum break, that kind of stomping 'I lie down' repetition. Maybe that's a hint of fierceness coming through? I don't know. I'm content to keep living with it and let it evolve.

I'm just as baffled that anyone could not like it. Just like I'm baffled that anyone could not like Bella Donna. To me, it's the same as not liking water or sunshine.

That's why it reminds me of Gypsy. If you don't pay attention, it sounds just like a catchy, relatively happy little tune, nothing too serious or anything. But then you listen to the words carefully and you're like damn, this is kind of depressing..

It all comes down to taste and our perceptions of Stevie and her craft/art. To me, she is SOOO much better than a lot of what she ends up giving us.

Thumbs down

I used to like you may be the one, but now I feel like it's being crammed down my throat it seems like its the emperor's new clothes syndrome. And I think that people are just obsessing over it because it is about her and freekin Buckingham. if you connect personally to the LYRICS of this song then I get that But don't tell me that you don't like country music, And then are obsessed with the song, If that is the case you might try listening to some more country. ALSO Don't try to tell me that this is her greatest vocal ever, Because I've heard her use more voice inflection in interviews. She herself admits that she talksang this. That bothers me because I know that her voice is capable of so much more. The girls harmony is superb. Especially on the chorus I think the chorus is fantastic. I also love the line I used to love you so much, because she sings it like she means it. Dave's guitar in this is typical country, and nothing spectacular. And as much as I enjoy hearing her talk The verses are just her talking, and I think that's what gets. that for me and not in a good way.

That's exactly the reason why i love this song so much. "I used to love you, see the light inside of you, i used to dream that you were an angel, and i was a starving child" are some of the best lyrics she wrote on this album. The "talking" verses are just there to underline the chorus' melody, and harmonies. I love it.
Those 4 songs are like the main reason why i love this album so much, so i'm not voting (and we all know that Moonlight is going to win anyway).
