The One Take lyrics remind me of Wrong, the way he's discussing the hypocrisy in the show business industry.

From the clips I assumed One Take was more about some sort of shadowy rich figure (banker sprang to mind first ) rather than something music business based. Hard to tell with just the clips though.

Well, I say music business because he mentions his publicist. While a bank or company would have a publicist, I'm not sure that individual bankers or hedge fund managers and the like do.

But second(?) verse says the character has not reputation, isn't on any lists because they hire a publicist to make sure nobody hears about what they're doing. I don't think the publicist is working in the traditional sense, they're making sure the things the character does ("the avarice of where I put my fist") don't get made public.

Anyway, best to wait for the whole song before trying to figure out what it means.

And I was thinking more the industry suits. The people whose names you don't know and you'd never recognize them in a restaurant, but they are the power brokers. They not only make decisions about who gets a recording contract, but they also say what goes on Youtube and what gets yanked (to the point where WB doesn't even let its own artists upload their work on Youtube, where it can be enjoyed for free) and they make the deals that obstruct innovation and ensure that consumers pay more for music, movies, and other media than they should, just so the companies can continue to make excessive amounts of money.

So, in that sense it reminds me of the nameless suits in the Wrong video. You know, not Mick, not the managers, but the corporate ones who decided to sue Whitney Harper for downloading music ($750 for each of the 37 songs she copied) onto her personal computer, to make an example of her and protect their royalties.

I like the use of "one take" here, because, as has been discussed, it's a play off of "toke." Furthermore, it refers to the popular phrase "one take" as in a movie scene, but ultimately it means one TAKE, one GRAB, one last act of avarice over the line. Very nice.

in one of the interviews, lindsey said there is a song on the album about wall street, bankers, etc.

I think we're thinking the same thing but I just didn't apply it to the music industry specifically. I was just taking it as a more general comment on the people who run any and/or all industry that we never know about and like to keep it that way. Bankers are just the first group that springs to my mind when I think of that type of character.

EDIT: Actually, it makes me think of the Bullingdon Club. Most of whom actually do end up as bankers...

Speaking of that, Regis Philbin is always joking about this restaurant he goes to all the time and they put his picture on the wall. He says every time he goes there, another picture is higher than his, because this guy is always one upping him. So, every time the guy comes in, he brings a picture of himself that's bigger than Regis' and in a better frame, for them to hang over Regis' picture. Who is this guy? Michael Icahn. And it's just funny to me, because if regular people came into the restaurant, they'd all flock to Regis for an autograph and not give Michael Icahn a second glance, but he's influencing a large chunk of our world.
