Default Dave Talks Stevie, The Australian

The Australian did an interview with Dave Stewart in the August 20, 2011 edition. Here's an excerpt of his Stevie comments:

Last time Stewart, 58, was in Australia was 12 years ago, when he and Eurythmics partner Annie Lennox presented the band's Peace tour. Now he's coming back, in November, on the road with Stevie Nicks, another chanteuse with whom he has had a long association. Stewart not only co-produced Nicks's latest album, In Your Dreams, but also co-wrote most of it -- a process he says was enjoyable as well as being a learning curve for both of them.

"She had a changing moment in her life about songwriting," Stewart says. "She had never co-written with anybody in a room before, which I found incredible. I checked through all of my Fleetwood Mac albums, but she didn't. They are all S. Nicks. If she did co-write with someone they were never there," he goes on. "It was just her on top of someone's track."

He suggests that perhaps his input -- being in the same room in her house -- brought something new to her collaborative writing skills. "When we came to write together she was really enjoying the process and it speeded up her writing because she didn't have time to deliberate over everything and get too analytical," he says. "I think she found it liberating, being in her house recording, being herself and having fun. She realised: 'Oh, I could have put out an album more than every 10 years.' "
