Default 16 Track Transfers of Highwayman, Think About It, ATGF, IYEDB

Just stumbled across these on YouTube...the user says that they've never been in circulation, and I've never heard these versions before (although, I'm not as avid about demo/outtake collecting as some people here).

Is anybody familiar with these mixes?

Some very interesting early versions.

Think About It (country version):

Wow, that version of Think About It is simply stunning! Although, I'm fairly sure that version of IYEDB isn't new, the other three are brilliant.

My thoughts exactly. I know I've heard that IYEDB before...and it says that Don Henley is singing backing vocals...I don't think he is.

Wow that version of "The Highwayman" was stunning!! I've never heard "If You Ever Did Believe" before. I recognize the end as the same ending she used in the GDW ending so cool! I absolutely love it! Thanks for sharing the links!

So then did Sandor or desrtangl post the other stuff on 7w or did he really keep it all to trade or whatever?
I'm wondering if it's in the "vault" over there...
Anybody know??

He posted the 4 songs in mp3 (not lossless) in throwndown.net quite awhile back, while looking for trades for it. Lossless are coming now soon.

He did post his "Julia" transfers there in lossless wav format. They are 2 versions that were on the original "Julia" Reel circulated in 2001, and have been posted on here.

These were posted in throwndown.net where a lot of live shows pop up in great quality.

The Vault at 7W is the basically the same stuff people post here out in the open. However, there does seem to be a big emphasis on keeping things in ancient, old school compilation format, like Valentine's Demos, Mirror Ball, Poets, Priests & Legends, etc. This, of course, leads to crappy quality demos continually being circulated, even though far better sounding versions have surfaced since 1999 or whenever.

By this I mean, here, it seems we strive for better quality versions of the unreleased songs (and hopefully delete the old, lesser quality versions afterwards), while there it seems to be more, "Can someone post the Valentine's Demos comp please?!" Not saying that's wrong, but Stevie didn't put these comps together: Maureen Loftus did! As a bootlegger!

Plus, most of her comps were padded with fake "alternate" versions, like "Paper Doll" and "Sweet Girl" (just to name two of the many) which were really center channel mixes that Maureen had fiddled with to make them sound a little different and, thus, an "alternate" or "demo". Things like that are worthless and continuing to circulate them on these old compilations seems pointless to me since they are neither "demos" nor "alternates".

Just a pet peeve of mine, as I look for the best quality outtakes and demos, rather than 14 copies of varying quality of the exact same, one-and-only TOSOTM demo of "Affairs Of The Heart" (to name but one example).

But that's only my personal preference. Nothing is better or worse. Just Stevie Fans loving Stevie's music, wherever we happen to congregate!!!

I don't even want to think about how much money I spent on Maureens CDs back in the day. I always redid the artwork for them because hers was really slapped together (poorly). But she did have some really good sounding stuff. Prior to her I had ten 100min tapes with really bad sound.

Thanks Mike, I didn't realize that. I used to get on Throwndown back in the day when it was all mp3 or whatever format they used, but it was before it was torrents. I would scour the Internet for sites with Stevie stuff, in fact I have an old hard drive with 100's of downloads starting in the mid 90's... probably the stuff you are talking about. I haven't used Throwndown since it turned all torrent because I'm in the technical dark age I guess. My son says it's easy, maybe I should try it out. Thanks again Mike!! You're the best!

Thanks! I got a few concerts, as well as the above songs, from the torrents there on throwndown.net, but I'm very clueless about torrents mainly.

Yes, Maureen had great stuff~ she gave me copies of everything. However, it's her padding still being circulated that gets under my skin. Bad, under-water sounding "Dial The Number", when much improved sound exists easily, but the old ones still get passed around, and someone will shout out, "Hey! this is new!"

Again, just a weird quirk of mine. I've spent the last few weeks going over every single version of every single Stevie song on my computer and only keeping the best of each individual version/take. It's so freeing to go to the Rock A Little demo of "Love Is Like A River" and only have the best sounding one on my computer, and not have to worry, "Which one of the 12 is the best?"

You don't have it? If my files load, I'll post it now, if not, in the morning.

And when I say "one of the 12", I don't mean there are 12 takes or anything. There is just ONE TAKE/VERSION, but COUNTLESS bad clones of it circulating. And I've had them all, but went through all of my Stevie Files and deleted all but the best sound of EACH VERSION. Now, many are still pretty poor sound, but I only need to keep the best sounding copy.

Like "The Maker Of Birds"~ ONE and ONLY ONE TAKE exists in our hands, but I had 17 copies of varying quality on my computer! And that's because I was always downloading the song in search of the best sound. What I should have been doing was, after downloading each one, then immediately comparing the sound and ditching all of the poorer versions. And I wish more people attempted this, so we could weed out unneeded inferior duplicates of the exact same version (I'm not talking about different takes; I want ALL takes regardless of sound).

Not loading... Argh! Mediafire!!
