Yup, sorry, I'm w/ Josh on this one. I would TOTALLY go for it if he were even a "passing fan" but he seems on the fence about her and her work, so how would he even KNOW that these were special? Not already in the rounds if he weren't a fan. I want really to belive that there are people that do this kind of stuff for the goodness of good like another poster mentioned, (like the person that buys all the BN prints to give back to Stevie) but I don't believe this to be the case. And not being re-paid.
HWW is ON his s%^& when it gets posted on ebay. The Cocteau Twins are all over any boot merch on Ebay, I'm just saying if Stevie thought there was a chance in hell of recapturing all this owrk out there, she'd invest a bit more time. Close the auctions at a min like the above artists do. Anyway, if it is true (and I think it was just the nicest most sincere "please leave me the hell alone") then more power to them, and my apologies, but I'm just not buying it. |

Why would a non- fan buy the tapes only to return them to Stevie?? Random. Call me cynical.....

Why would he do it? Because of this:
"I have two cousins who are musicians and have won multiple grammys. Sometimes, their work would get out before they were finished with it, or in spite of the fact that they didn't want it out but kept private--for all kinds of various reasons. As artists, these unreleased songs getting out sometimes caused a lot of problems for them, and for other people involved in the recordings. Even legal or personal problems. There are a zillion people involved in writing/recording/producing/mixing/publishing even one song." I think he explained his rationale fairly clearly. It does make me wonder though whether he normally tries to obtain tapes of unreleased songs in order to return them to the artist. If he doesn't, and he's not that much of a Stevie Nicks fan, why do that in this particular case? Was this situation particularly unusual? |

And I gotta say, Stevie herself bears some responsibility for a lot of this stuff getting out.... a lot of it she just handed out to people, and a lot of it she seems to have not kept (or hired someone to keep) control of... For instance, why are her tapes in a storage unit belonging to Sara? Why weren't they in her home in Phoenix, at her mom's, or in some dedicated music vault? After all, this is HER livelihood at stake.... Just sayin' |

Sara's tapes were Sara's copies.
Now, I have them. And she has stated to me that she's happy the songs are now circulated, especially "Mirror, Mirror". I'm sure Stevie has copies of them, just like all the other Rock A Little work tapes, which were ALL normal, every day old school Maxell cassettes from the Eighties/Nineties or (a very few) DATs. These aren't Reels or Masters, but copies of songs onto plain old audio cassettes. "Sharon's Tape" was just that: Sharon's tape, a copy of songs on a normal old cassette, left lying in a warehouse/storage locker/whatever. The ORIGINAL eBay seller (not this Corbin entity) did not copy the tapes. I believe him. He sold me tapes that were paid for at large amounts. He also gave me a few tapes for being a good customer. He knows he could have made thousands more off of us had he made copies. He probably wishes he had now. Last edited by mikebise; 08-09-2011 at 06:17 PM.. Reason: Emphasis on Sara just having copies, not Masters. Nor does Corbin. |

I don't think it's cynical to question the truthfulness of this person's response, because he doesn't appear invested or attached to this particular instance of artist's rights to .
If he really wanted to do good, he could have donated the money he spent on someone/something truly in need. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of examples of unreleased material on eBay. Is he buying up all of that as well? Why Stevie, when he doesn't even express any true interest in her and how did he even come across an auction that most Stevie fans weren't even aware of? He's either scripted this reason for not sharing to deflect both requests and criticism or, he thought his investment and seemingly selfless gesture might inspire a personal response from Stevie in the form of a thank you. |

Would Stevie care if someone gave her tapes back?

I don't know and I don't get it. I wish I had asked him how it was that he returned them.
I have actually tracked his ebay purchases and other than buying a pretty cool reciever and a couple pair of earphones after he got the tapes, it doesn't look like he ever buys anything pertaining to music. I'm not a stalker. I just have to state that ![]()
