I'm a big fan of The Bangles; I have all their albums. I was never a Go Go's fan...a little too girly- gimicky for me.

It was generally cited -- back in the day - that The Bangles were a stronger band/more accomplished musically& intrumentally.

I'm indifferent to the Go Go's.

I don't agree with that statement, Belinda's (like many artists) singing got better over the years. Same can be said about Madonna. I think the Go Go's are great musicians and are one of the best all female bands of all time.

I like both bands but I tend to think of the Go-Go’s as more of a party band whereas the Bangles were more musically inclined (not sure why others thing the G’s are). I really only liked the singles that the Go-Go’s released but I could listen to the full albums of the Bangles. Also, Dodfather, the Bangles were around just as long as the Go-Go’s. They had an EP in 1982.

I loved Bananarama! I still have their cassettes from '83 to '86. lol

As for The Bangles or Go Go's, definitely The Bangles.

I've been listening to Belinda, The Go-Go's, and The Bangles a lot recently. Like I said before, the only thing the two groups have in common is that they're all-girl bands. I enjoy both groups quite a bit. Their hits weren't necessarily their best songs; Walk Like an Egyptian is ridiculous, and Vacation is only a little less so.

Beauty & the Beat is by far the best Go-Go's album, tho what I've heard of Talk Show is pretty damn good. I haven't heard God Bless the Go-Go's. Belinda's solo material is way different from her work w/ the group, and I like it a lot. Runaway Horses is her best, I think.

The Bangles' first album, All Over the Place, is my favorite. They lost some of their edginess after that; their two biggest hits, Walk Like an Egyptian and Eternal Flame, are pure garbage, IMO. Liverpool, Hero Takes a Fall, Hazy Shade of Winter, Where Were You...?, Following, Be With You...those are all great songs.

You're forgetting the Prince-penned "Manic Monday"!! That was just as big as "Egyptian" & "Eternal Flame".

I'm also thinking that Vision of You would sound great followed by Italian Summer on a mix CD.

Talk Show is pretty great - especially the fantastic power pop of Head Over Heels. I would also highly recommend God Bless The Go-Go's. I'm including the single from it, Unforgiven, in this post. It's fantastic, as is Throw Me A Curve, La-La Land and many others from that album.

As for Belinda's solo career I do love Runaway Horses, it's so consistent, but I also really like Real (1993), the album everyone forgets about - haha. It has Lay Down Your Arms and Big Scary Animal on it, as well as Goodbye Day. Have you checked that album out?

This is a fantastic idea! They'd sound great together.

Yeah, I have that one, but I haven't listened to it in a long time - I'll have to dig it out. I ordered A Woman & a Man the other day - I've only heard In Too Deep off that one, which I really liked.

I really like A Woman And A Man. Annoyingly though there are 2 different versions. One of them (European release I think) has Listen To Love and Always Breaking My Heart on it while another version has these songs replaced with covers of Jealous Guy and The Ballad Of Lucy Jordan. It seems odd to replace original material with covers but oh well...

Personally I hope you got the version with Always Breaking My Heart on it - since that song is absolutely fantastic! It's one of my favourite Belinda songs ever in fact. If you didn't get this version then I'm happy to send you an mp3 of the track.

Well, the European one is the version I ordered...we'll see if that's the one they sent when it gets here.

Smile Star

I don't know if you all heard, but the Go-Go's just got a star on the Walk of Fame. I just saw this on the news this morning. And the star is right across from where they played their very first concert.

So do The Bangles have one?

Are you suggesting that the Go-Go's are better because of this? Stevie doesn't even have one right? So while I’m all for the Go-Go’s having one, in the big scheme of things, I don’t think this means a whole lot really.

Nah, I'm not suggesting the Go Go's are better than anybody. Just reporting the info before you hear on ET tonight.

Let me just add this link. Wow Jane looks different!
