Just to cite for you one example of the decision making process, and what it involves: Madonna wanted "Impressive Instant" as the fourth single from her album 'Music.' Warner Bros wanted "Amazing." Madonna refused to promote "Amazing" or film a concept video for it, so WB decided they would release the single without her involvement and would issue a live video. Madonna then dropped the song from her setlist to prevent it from being filmed, and WB ultimately abandoned their plans. MADONNA doesn't even get final say in the single choices from her albums, without manipulating the situation to her advantage. So, no offense, but what makes you think Stevie does? In regards to "Secret Love," I think it's a no-brainer why the record company would favor it as a single. It's just slightly over 3 minutes long, it's upbeat & catchy, it appeals to the Adult Contemporary format, and it has a backstory that connects with Stevie's & Fleetwood Mac's heyday. That kind of song is beyond easy to promote. |
