The Adult Contemporary charts...modest hit really.
It's just a little unfair to Stevie to say "Secret Love" was such a failure and a bomb when it really wasn't. It was quite successful, even though a lot of fans weren't thrilled that it was the lead single. |

As for why she stopped...Presumably it started with Epstein-Barr, & the Klonopin/weight gain couldn't have helped. Once she sobered up, I'm sure the risks of falling down or into the audience became clearer. She had a hip problem on the SYW Tour & who knows what other problems she has had as she has aged (we know she says her back acts up from the Edgewalk). Additionally, she can move faster on the Frankenboks (I almost fell over when she started her "Stand Back" spin at an early SYW show, she had not moved that fast since RAL), but fans raised a stink that she was not in the boots. - Jake

I just read that there is to be a new movie about Edgar Allan Poe. http://popwatch.ew.com/2011/07/22/jo...con/?hpt=hp_t2 Director John McTeigue and the stars of The Raven, John Cusack, Alice Eve, and Luke Evans, debuted the film’s first trailer for the fans of Hall H today. Cusack plays Edgar Allan Poe in a fictionalized account of the author’s last five days alive, in which he must help track down a serial killer inspired by Poe’s writings. “He was a bit of a rock star in his day,” Cusack said of the charismatic writer. “He definitely was the godfather of goth.” The dark and moody trailer definitely brought the goth, including plenty of dead and mutilated bodies, and — of course — screeching ravens. “It’s an art movie and a popcorn movie all at once,” Cusack said during the panel (moderated by EW’s Anthony Breznican). And for all you Poe fans, Cusack had no problem answering which works by the author are his top five: the short story “Hop-Frog,” the poem “The Raven,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Tell-Tale Heart,” and “The Pit and the Pendulum.” The Raven will be in theaters March 9. ----------- There's lots written about Poe--obviously this movie is not based on historical records about the man, but if you are interested in Poe, you might find this interesting: http://www.eapoe.org/papers/misc1851/18570300.htm including this: "Not long before his death he was cruelly beaten, blow upon blow, by a ruffian who knew of no better mode of avenging supposed injuries. It is well known that a brain fever followed — that he left New York precipitately — that he reached Baltimore, the city of his nativity, and there died on the fourth of October, 1849." The planet of reality and facts.
Since when is a Top 20 charting single not considered remotely successful? |

Earth. The same planet where, for an artist at the stage of Stevie's career, a top 20 AC hit is a *hit*.
This is just where she's at now. She stopped having Top 40 hits back in 1989, and having hits (as a solo artist) on the Hot 100 back in the mid-1990s. Now her hits are on AC and that's where they're going to be. If "Secret Love" had failed to make the AC chart then yeah I'd say it flopped, but it did as well as "Everyday" and "Sorcerer" did. |

![]() Just because it charted in the top 20! it did? Doesn't make it a hit! Barely any radio stations played it. |

It was all over New York AC radio, and that's one of the largest markets in the country. |

![]() Since the definition of an album single is a song used to promote an artist's album in order to generate album sales, a successful single successfully generates album sales. Stevie's CD did quite well the first few weeks then tanked. Most people knew it would do well at first because she has a relatively large following. For whatever reason, "Secret Love" was not been played on rotation in most U.S. radio markets. The video was not even aired on VH1. I doubt most people who were exposed to "Everyday" and "Sorcerer" have not been exposed to "Secret Love" on the televison or radio. I wonder how many Ledgies heard/saw "Everyday," "Sorcerer" or one of the other TISL recorded tracks on TV or radio? Now how many have people heard the recorded "Secret Love" single or others on IYD played on the radio or video channels? |
