dear shackin'up - since you've been so insistent on people sending in some questions i sat down, rattled off, and sent a whole bunch of them (now i don't want to read this b/c i'm sure i'll find tons of typos / grammar problems):

Questions for Lindsey Buckingham - several to choose from:
  1. Lindsey, would you consider acoustically reworking your gorgeous ballad "Walk a Thin Line" and perform it during upcoming Sept-Oct tour?
  2. Several fans recorded your new songs during Saban preview show and put those videos on youtube. Do you resent that, like that, didn't know about it, or don't care either way? (Btw that was one AMAZING show - can't wait for DVD! And, personally, I think those youtube videos are in a very minuscule way good advertising for the upcoming CD.)
  3. In Our Own Time is a great song and a great choice for the first single - will it be released soon? What will be the route - your website, amazon, itunes, or?
  4. Did you know you were trending on twitter (worldwide) when you appeared on that SNL episode in May?
  5. Speaking of twitter, only tweets from people working on various aspects of your new album are from Jeremy Cowart (great photos!) and Jokerstyle Productions - which are greatly appreciated. Considering you are going DIY route why don't you have at least minimal presence on twitter?
  6. Why is Lindsey Buckingham youtube channel still dead? (Suggestion - any of your kids interested in arranging your youtube channel? A lot of kids seem to do a great job with their channels these days...)
  7. New songs we've heard during Saban show are unbelievable. Frankly, before April 22, I believed Gift of Screws 1 (2001 original double album version, extensively bootlegged, which ended up dispersed across Say You Will, Under the Skin, and Gift of Screws, plus still unreleased songs) was your creative peak musically and especially lyrically (and before hearing all your new songs, still is lyrically, imho. And yeah, there's that little song called Go Your Own Way, and Second Hand News...). But that changed! I couldn't believe how great the new songs we've had the privilege to hear are - and can't wait for the CD to come out!! Speaking of CD, how will you distribute it? If one of the ways will be through your website, I suggest you take a look at it and then some other artists' web sites. Although a lot of info is there, and your new website does look pretty, the layout is so counter-intuitive that even fans eager to find info have a hard time finding it - let alone somebody who might casually stumble upon it! Any plans of fixing that?
  8. Any considerations of adding another leg of the tour after Sept/Oct 2011?
  9. Will you be performing a song in South Dakota on Aug 11th?

What's behind the house in Hawaii?

Did you get that Scritti Politti cd--WHITE BREAD, BLACK BEER--I sent you? And did you hear it?!

Why does your taste in music suck? With the exception of the good word you had about Johnny Marr... would you ever consider working with him?

Have you heard the Bad Lieutenant album? I consider it the vanguard of guitar playing/production. I think you might be inspired. I suspect the members HAVE heard your work from the sounds of some of it.

You have a sophisticated appreciation of cinema. Usually when peeps I love talk movies (that's you, Stevie!), I cringe, but you have yet to provide your estimation of a filmmaker with which I have disagreed. Would you consider doing music for any of the current filmmakers you've acclaimed: Todd Solondz, Wes Anderson? Is your music inspired by the works of John Ford or Orson Welles?

ETA: I sent a revised version of my movie question.

ETA2.0: I just sent this question: The "yeeeah yeeeeah yeeeeeah's" in Janet Jackson's "Runaway" seem to have their source in the "waaaah waaaaah waaaaah's" in "Trouble"--would u or Fleetwood Mac ever consider working with Jam/Lewis?

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

He answered my question about the suggestion to collaborate with White in that online hotelroom Q&A he did around 2007. And in 2008 I talked to him about it in real life during his eastcoast GOS-tour.
There are several noise-rock bands, especially Sonic Youth, but you can count Yo La Tengo too and yes, basicly everything Neil Young did with Crazy Horse. Even his new album, (called Le Noise) produced by Daniel Lanois is a perfect example.

I know you're not poo-poohing the question, apart from LB, your taste in music is 99 procent the opposite of mine. And to be honest, and not poo-poohing, of Lindsey's taste too, based on the bands he said he admired through the years.

I just love to see it happening: a full rockalbum with alot of grungy guitar, combined with "rains" of acoustic picking, screaming solos and screaming Lindsey's ( coming from everywhere, like in GOS and Great Day ). Say, songs like Johnny Stew, Come, ISA, Not That Funny, That's Enough For Me, This is the Time, Mary Lee Jones, GOS, Loving Cup, Play In The Rain and Great Day, but (ofcourse new songs/compositions!) now in a new, 2012 Hardedged Folkrock Noise style. It's not a concept that truly exists, but -like you said- you can "hear" it. And when I met him, he at least acted as if he could "hear" it too.
I wonder if it's 99 percent. Unfortunately it's true that Lindsey is something of a bigot in his musical horizons (remember his interview about disco! or his constant references in interviews to Eminem!). However, when he did his Amazon list (anybody got dat link?), I agreed with everything on his list and loved his explanations--e.g. Bruce Springsteen's TUNNEL OF LOVE is a masterpiece and a personal fave. And I had to laugh that the one thing on the list with which I didn't agree was, I think, Radiohead--and it's the one thing for which he provided no explanation.

OK, 90 percent. But saying that Nirvana is OK and Radiohead respectable says enough for me. Point is, that I was not discussing our tastes in music, I was discussing the fact that Lindsey has a talent for uncompromised composing and a feel for folk, noise and rock. I just would like one album of pure that. You didn't understand what I meant so I explained. I hope my question is clear for you now?

I come back to my 99 percent difference in our taste, Truefaith!
