I adore Bette! I have nearly all her movies either on VHS/DVD or recorded (most from TCM). The thing I love is that she acted for nearly sixty years, up until she passed in 1989. Her last movie 'Wicked Stepmother' was all kinds of cheesy but it was worth it because of her. She looked way older than 80 in that picture but with all she went thru, it would make anyone age faster. She just has always had my interests more than Joan. She is so fun to watch! Some of my faves are 'The Bride Came COD' (1941), 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane'? (1962), 'The Watcher in the Woods' (1980)....there is just so many!

I have three of her DVD box sets to framed movie posters to a 'All About Eve' mouse pad! lol

I love the comments she makes like the one on Joan... "I wouldn't piss on her if she were on fire"

I know that documentary. If it's the one I'm thinking of then it's based on the Richard Dyer book. There is masses of academic writing about Joan Crawford, the Faye Dunaway movie saw a big resurgence in interest and loads of people studied her. It's a very good point about her changing face - since a constant appearance was one of the key aspects of traditional stardom. She really did do that more dramatically then many others around at the time.

I don't know if technically it was based on his book, but he is interviewed in it, along with Julia Roberts and I forget who else. I know it was made in the 1990s.

I think his book just inspired it. Kind of like The Celluloid Closet documentary that is based on the Vito Russo book (another documentary I'd check out if you haven't seen it already)

'Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte' (1964) directed by Robert Aldrich who also directed 'Whatever Happened To Baby Jane'.

Joan was pretty fabulous, I must say. Not only was she a movie star and a Pepsi Cola board member, but she got her vajayjay licked by Marilyn Monroe. How cool is that?

Maybe...so i'm gathering that if someone criticizes someone you lke (Madonna ) you brand them a hater yet don't think twice about doing the same regarding someone that you happen to have an aversion to?
