I mean they have dance remixes, albeit some unoffcial, for other FM records. I have heard Big Love and have bought the Seven Wonders one.
I don't think Stevie really carried much weight with those remixes at all. They were just awesome remixes, period. It wasn't like "Oh, this is a Stevie Nicks remix, we have to play it in clubs!!!" They were good and were done by hot mixers, so they got played. Calderone is right up there, but everything Young touches turns to gold.

I met Ms. Yound at a party she was D.J.'ing the week that single came out. She was very nice and was to me slightly in awe to have remixed a Stevie song. I think she said in an interview around that time that in its own way it was as much of an honor to remix Stevie's song as it was to remix Madonna's song or songs. You are correct that she gets hot remixes out there - she could remix just about anything

LOL

I read an interview with her where she said how shocked and awed she was to have had the honor to do a Stevie song. She must be a fan!

Illicit is the production team behind the other remixes on the "Planets" maxi-single.

I think there may be some Calderone remixes floating around out there (if they're even legitimate), but they're definitely not on the maxi-single.

Also, from what I'm told, the Illicit remix was just as popular in clubs as the Tracy Young remix.
Outside of the DJs, I'm not sure that anyone in the clubs pays much attention to who remixed a certain tune... they just know a great song when they hear it.

Ah Ha - I do not know what the hell I was thinking. Illicit it was (doesn't that sound naughty ). and - yes, they played and still play Illicit's remixes a bunch as well.

Interestingly, ther video of Everyday got pretty good airplay, but the single for it and Sorcerer failed to chart in any significant manner as did the actual record as I do not think TISL has sold over 1,000,000 records yet (although I readily admit I could be wrong about the sales). Moreover, I seem to remember that TISL got far better reviews overall than SYW as did the reviews for the singles, esp. POTU (dance and rock versions) and Sorcerer.

In sum, I think they are smart for focusing on what they knows works and pays very well - touring. Also, I think the venues on the first leg leg of this tour were far larger than a bunch of The Dance venues if I remember correctly. For example, in Atlanta, they played to a sold out crowd at Lakewood (maybe 5,000) and played to around 9,000 on this tour for a higher ticket price. Note: these numbers are an estimate of the actual numbers, but are probably fairly accurate.

I beg to differ... Everyday was a very popular song in my opinion. I guess I could say this because many kids at my school liked this song and they don't even know who Stevie is. Also, at Amazon.com, you can order this cd called teen mix 2001 (or something like that) and Everyday is in there. So I think that Everyday was a very successful song. Now as for Sorcerer, you are right. I never heard that on the radio or anything.

POTU was a hit though. It was number one (dance) and played on many tv shows, like charmed. I think a maxi single really helps matters!

I just wish they would realease Everybody Finds Out as a dance single with a maxi single to purchase. I think it would play on Rock Stations. I just feel bad, because I think that the song Say You Will was really good. But it hardly got any airplay. It deserved more!

For this second leg of the tour on the east coast, they need a new single, they need tons of commercials , and a video for the new single before the shows ( like in the next week) then people would get interested , liking the FM of old but curious about the FM of new. NY, Philly, DC...thats alot of people! Also if they have BMG or Columbia House carry the cd and have it on the front page in November, it will hit big for Christmas. That would make the cd go up and sell a million before years end.

When the remixes for Planets came out, the only ones that were sent to clubs were the Tracy Young mixes on vinyl. The Illicit mixes may be played at club, but they weren't right off the bat. And I'd change that statement to "they know a good REMIX when they hear it." Most clubs don't play mixes because of the artist, they go by what remixer is hot. If they hear that a certain mixer is coming out with a new remix or new track, they automatically keep that in mind and make it a point to listen to it or play it once. The record companies are the ones who send out the remixes to clubs and it isn't based on who performs the song, it's based on who the remixer is. And I think the Illicit mixes suck badly.

I agree with you on this dissention. For example if Oakenfold were to come out with a new mix of an unknown artist, they would jump all over it. He's pretty huge.

Except if Madonna for example came out with a new song, regardless of the mixer, she'd get played, and if it's an unknown mixer his status may get raised by mixing a Madonna record. If the mixer is well known, well that's where you have fireworks.

I think It can work both ways - it all depends on who has the higher profile.

You've kind of answered your own question. DId anyone notice during the tour how many people left their seats while the new songs were playing? Keep in mind, the majority of the concert goers don't know and aren't interested in knowing the new music. They want to hear the hits. Adding more new material would likely cause bad word of mouth that, "Yeah, but they played too much new stuff". Being a band like Fleetwood Mac makes it increasingly difficult to be successful with new music, especially since it's been such a long time since you last released an album of new music.

Let's face it, the CD was simply a "feeling out" period for the band. Debuting at #3 is not a bad accomplishment at all. Also, staying in the top 100 for nearly 4 months isn't bad either. Both "Peacekeeper" and "Say You Will" have been hits on the AAA charts, which is the largest growing radio format in the country.

The big test is what happens with the NEXT album.

True, erucktul

But SAY YOU WILL gets great response at concerts after Nicks performs it. People don't expect a second encore, which is why all concertgoers don't hear Nicks' lovely 'n haunting GOODBYE BABY.

Buckingham receives enormous applause after he performs his new marterial in concert: PEACEKEEPER, WHAT'S THE WORLD COMING TO and SAY GOODBYE, and entire crowd standing ovations for his brilliant COME.

..........But I know what you're saying........

They'd be in big trouble at a Neil Young show this tour...he comes out and plays his entire new album ONLY...then plays a couple of hits for the encores...show over.

That's my big beef about (what I see as a majority of) Fleetwood Mac fans...they clamour for new material on album, but only want to hear the same old tired tunes in concert. Fleetwood Mac should just shove the new material down our throats, either we like it or not. If they're really that proud of the new stuff, PLAY IT (or shut the hell up about it)

I don't know what's been happening recently, but during the first half of the tour, people were leaving in droves during Come, on a beer or bathroom run I suppose. In fact, I've heard this happening recently too.

I'm sure people are enjoying Say You Will in concert, because it has been getting some airplay, and it's a very catchy song.

We can all sit here and play PR people and say what they NEED to do to sell more albums, get these singles played on the radio, etc, but really, is it going to happen? Is this type of music going to do all of those things? Is Fleetwood Mac still a band capable of competing with the Justin Timberlakes and Avril Lavignes of the world? I don't think so. And no, I don't really think a video would help either.

The music they are putting out is still great, we all know that, but I just think that the belief that FM will be a "hot" band again is wishful thinking.

Just my $.02

There's a difference, though. Neil Young has always had a cult-type following. Because of that, his records always seem to sell very well. Fleetwood Mac has never been that way. They have never written "message" songs like NY has.

And, I don't know what a Neil Young ticket goes for, but I'm pretty sure he's playing fairly intimate venues, and not charging over $100 a ticket. I could be wrong.

The WORST thing FM could do is shove new music down our throats. They would end up playing half empty arenas and have to move to 5,000 seat theaters, or (God forbid) state fairs.

My opinion is, they're doing the right thing. With this big "we're back" tour, play mostly hits, with a couple of new tracks. Next tour, less hits, a few tracks from SYW, a few tracks from the new album (if there is one). Moderation is the key!
