Paul McCartney Places Beatles Breakup Squarely on John Lennon

While Morrissey has come out swinging against the Queen of England, calling her the "ultimate dictator," Sir Paul McCartney has a different issue to take up with her Royal Highness -- he thinks his fellow bandmate in the Beatles, Ringo Starr, should be knighted. While all four Beatles enjoy MBE status (Member of the Order of the British Empire), only McCartney was knighted in a ceremony that took place in 1997. Speaking to Geoff Lloyd on Absolute Radio this week, McCartney joked that he would like to poke his head in the Queen's quarters and suggest that the only other living Beatle receive the same honor.Perhaps more significantly, NME reports that during the same interview, McCartney placed the blame for the Beatles' breakup squarely on John Lennon. "Basically me, George [Harrison] and Ringo said, 'Does this have to be final? Could we do a couple of gigs or can we think about this tomorrow?' But John was off with Yoko [Ono] and he was saying 'No, no, it's great -- I feel a release,' and all that. So that was kind of final."
So, either Paul was quoted out of context or he's really stretching for some news to promote his tour. This is so OLD and we all know John was responsible for breaking up the Beatles because it was HIS band to begin with, lol! But George was, I believe, ready to go in his own direction and All Things Must Pass is a great indication of that. I don't care for Paul rehashing stuff from Beatles history where key players aren't here to have their say. It's one of my biggest pet peeves with Paul McCartney in general.

Play inspired by cystic fibrosis and...John Lennon

John Lennon and Me, and cystic fibrosis too.Notre Dame play explores difficult subject of youth and terminal illness.CARLETON PLACE – Most young people believe themselves to be invincible.Young people with cystic fibrosis know all too well that they likely won’t live beyond the age of 25.

Reconciling the youthful zest for live with the grim spectre of an all-too-soon death proved to be the making of a touching performance looking at young people with cystic fibrosis on the stage of Notre Dame Catholic High School last week.

“If you take a straw and just put it in your mouth, and plug your nose, and try to breathe, that’s what it’s like to breathe with cystic fibrosis,” said Joe Gallagher, the play’s director and a Notre Dame teacher. “It’s an incredibly tough disease. Most people with it die before they’re 25,” he said during last Friday’s performance before the Grade 7 and 8 classes on the cafeteria’s stage.

The play, John Lennon and Me, a reference to the lead character’s fanatical devotion to the Beatles star, also had two evening performances on June 1 and 2, with all of the proceeds going towards cystic fibrosis research. Gallagher told the students that he had met a young person with the disease, which inspired him to mount this production.

I'm seeing Paul at Wrigley Field (shudders) at the end of July. I've always wanted to see a Beatle, and as we know choices are limited! I'm hoping he doesn't do too much of his solo stuff. Ha, I'm the kind of casual fan that us Fleetwood Mac fanatics hate!

You'll have a wonderful time. I don't care for Paul's solo stuff for the most part and, frankly, there were too many artists I love that I had to make a choice.

I would love to see Paul one day, maybe. It's tough. I have mixed feelings about him sometimes, but I loved him as a Beatle and he is one of my top songwriters based solely on his Beatles achievements. It's just...I get SO freaking sad that I can never see John. THAT one I would have paid anything to see...anything.

Enjoy Erin!! And I hope you will be seeing Lindsey too.

I'm very curious to what he'll play, but I'm assuming geezer pleasers, which is fine by me. I'm guessing I'll be on the younger end of those in attendance. The friend I'm going with is 15 years older than me.

My bank account is crying, because I didn't make a choice. Between these tickets, Stevie tickets, and Lindsey tickets (bought for Milwaukee, still waiting for Chicago to reappear) I may have put a serious dent in my vacation plans. Oh well!

Oh, and BTW, my mother's favorite Beatle is Ringo. Just thought I'd put that out there because I find it so incredibly bizarre.
