Okay, crow "caws" is about right. I didn't think of that one.

How strange... I only got 33% on that one! What gives? People in Austin constantly snicker at my drawl!

Haha, makes sense. My parents are from Connecticut and I grew up in New Jersey and spent my summers on Cape Cod...parents also retired on the Cape.
What does that have to do with your accent?

Well, a couple of the questions say "What do people in your area/where you grew up say" instead of "What do you say." I don't *think* I pronounce oil like "awl" but people where I grew up sure as hell do.

I'm not sure how much of a drawl I actually have. I think it has more to do with the words I use for certain things.

Ha. Probably back in the good old days when the Mob ran things. Now you're more likely to hear, " Kim Kardashian featuring DJ Pauly D."

28% Dixie.

Sounds ok I guess. I did live in Texas for a few years as a child; I guess my mind was...polluted somewhat.

And on the second one: 30% Dixie.

One that I started hearing this winter was "pouring the snow," meaning it's snowing heavily.

I want to know why this quiz doesn't ask if you add an "R" to wash.... as in warsh or George Warshington. For the record, I've heard people from many different geographic region say this.

I emailed my Mother and made her take these tests too, and she got the same scores that I did. She seems to think since we rank low on the Dixie scores because we've always been urban Southerners. The two cities I've lived in are Austin and Charlotte... both of which have metro populations of over 1.5 million. I guess that accounts for why I have a Southern drawl, but I don't really use Southern colloquialisms.

Yeah, that could explain it. My mother's side of the family was fairly urban, but my dad's side was very country (I'm the first generation on that side who's not a farmer).

I had my bf take these - He got 25% on one and 33% on the other - odd because he's from south Louisiana and has a slight Cajun accent (his parents both have very pronounced Cajun accents, IMO).

And he informed me that I saw "fawl" instead of "foil."

34% Dixie- You are definitely a Yankee. Hooray!!! Considering I have mostly lived in the Southeast and daily hear major southern accents, I feel pleased at that!!
When I took it a second time (different questions) I scored a 20% Dixie- Wow! you are a Duke of Yankeedom!

I think the "kawt" for "caught" is almost pronounced as a two-syllable word (as in, "cow-t".

It cracks me up...and annoys me simultaneously...when certain regional accents use multi-syllabic pronunciations of one syllable words. Example: Paula Dean doesn't say "Ham", she says "Ha-yam". UGH!!! Just irritates me to no end.

"caught" to me is pronounced "cot"....like "taught" rhymes with "tot", etc.

SO...why isn't "draught" pronounced "drot" instead of "draft"????

And, if "slough" is pronounced "slew", then why is it that when we have a tickle in our throat we "cough" (coff) and not "kew"??
