I know people love to make comments about how ****ed up Stevie looks/sounds in every interview and performance from this period and I think they're usually dead wrong, but I think this interview is one of the rare instances where it can pretty legitimately be said that she's just cracked out. She looks amazing and sounds basically coherent, but her tense, almost paranoid, facial expressions, the way she moves her mouth and keeps looking down and away from the interviewer/camera and the general low-grade anxiety and defensiveness and her inability or lack of interest in picking up the threads the interviewer is feeding her — not to mention the fact that she says she's been "up for days" — it all signals coke bender to me.

Stevie is always intense and serious in interviews, but she's usually passionate, thoughtful and creative. She's really flatlining here.

Heart Thank you

Thank you EnchantedKiwi for this video. I had never seen it and I love her talking about her art, very refreshing and I love to hear her voice.

Anyone who's ever been around someone high on coke, can see without a doubt that Stevie is high as a kite in this interview.
Still love it though.

I think it's always funny that someone has to give all these reason why stevie MUST be high whenever a video was posted. They site examples on her face, words, look, socks. But really it was 1984 - of course she was high! You don't have to tell us, it's just assumed.

I think you're right. This interview reminds me a lot of the other MTV video she did with Mark Goodman promoting the WH which I'm guessing was in '83 sometime. She did look/sound a bit different later in the RAL period.

Have you ever done coke? Dang, you describe her as a junkie. Sheesh. I don't think she appears cracked out at all.
Also, the poster of the youtube video reports the interview was recorded on August 11, 1985.

LOL! Someone should make an entire song along these lines.

Did you look at the other posts? We talked about it and it can't be August 1985. It's too close till the release date of RAL.

Yes, I read all the ramblings. If you actually watch Part 1 of the interview video, the first question asked is this: "What can you tell me about your new album, Rock-A-Little?"
Is that so hard? Sheesh.

Neil Preston & Sam Emerson misdate a bunch of their live photos on one of those popular commercial photo databases. Stevie herself tells the world in several interviews that she toured Wild Heart in 1984 & Rock a Little in 1985. People make mistakes -- even about their own lives & work. I can't remember whether my appendix ruptured when I was 10 or 11, so I just tell doctors "I was 10 or 11."

MTV aired parts of this same interview in 1984. I think I still have my old VHS with those parts on it. It had bits of Cyndi Lauper, Annie Lennox, & Stevie Nicks. Nicks says that Prince borrowed some of Stevie's ideas for stage clothes for his own act.

I did watch part 1 - and 2 and 3 and 4 for that matter. Just because she was asked that question doesn't mean RAL was out yet. Stevie had the idea of RAL as early as 1983.

She didn't even know anything about a single yet. Jimmy Iovine is still working with her. She still doesn't know when the album is coming out. These three things can't be going on 3 months before the album was released.

edit: and as David says, he saw the video itself in 1984.

In part 4, she also mentions she didn't want anyone thinking about how she didn't do anything for a year and a half. The Wild Heart wrapped at the end of 1983...so again...it points to about August 11, 1985 to be about right.

It aired in 1984. What else can I say?

Would you sauté if she promised you heaven, would you even fry?

This was the interview where Stevie said she loved Cyndi. (especially the Money Changes Everything video with the trash can bit) Pretty cool, since Stevie was considered a seasoned star by that time, where Cyndi was just hitting the big time.
