I would say "Gift of Screws" is one of his weirdest. It's also one of my favorites but I tend to like the more weird/manic Lindsey stuff. I adore "Play in the Rain" as well. I'm basically obsessed with "Johnny Stew" (kind of the original "Gift of Screws" for me, in a way) and "Love From Here, Love From There", both of which are closer to the bizarre end of the spectrum. I love the quirk. |

I love it too!! I think it's a very underrated song. people usually believe it's only lindsey having fun with synths and samplering. for me, it pictures so well complicated feelings that maybe were so complex he couldn't express them in a more "conventional" way, like a "normal" song. |

This thread is really making me laugh...!
![]() Gift of Screws is odd but wonderful. Play in the Rain ... odd, but less wonderful. Bwana is just dreadful. |

Lindsey has made a career of strange songs, so it's hard to say which one is "weird" for him.
I distinguish weird, however, from bad. Some of his strangest/weirdest songs are my favorites. Here's my list: Tusk (possibly the best damn song of that entire lineup!) Not That Funny (which rocks...I love it!) The Ledge (truly bizarre, especially in its sequencing as the second song) Can't Go Back (At the time, I thought what the heck is this?) Make Me a Mask (Ditto) Big Love (on Tango) But, no matter how eclectic his solo albums are, nothing on them strikes me as weird. Only in the context of Mac do I think such things. |
