My family names are McNamara (no kidding) and Fox. I am 100% Irish, second generation in this country. My great uncle, Patrick Fox went down with the Titanic. He was coming back from visiting the family in Ireland. He was all of 22 years old, God rest his soul. My mother's family are from Sligo but there is a possibility that my father's family is from Ulster. I have done some genealogical research of that clan which seems to be pretty big. I think I have traced that part of the family back through Ellis Island and believe them to ALL be Catholics. Erin go Bragh! Long live Ireland!

Failte! Welcome! Cead Mile Failte! A Hundred Thousand Welcomes~

Slainte! (Cheers!)

I wish I knew more Gaelic............but I admit, the bv or the mv (and similar) combinations leave me confused....

btw: my father's side of the family (the bigger part of the Irish side) has done some research, and apparently, my family was dispossessed to wales.........so, my great grandmother's maiden name was Walsh (Welsh) which was a catchall for the Irish that were moved to Wales after the English took their land........Assholes. prior to that, My father hasnt told me. We really dont speak. But it really doesnt matter. My SOUL is 200% IRISH. oh YES.

Chris, I am almost full blooded Irish, if it wasnt for the Cherokee in me.

My Grandfather on Dad's side of the family, the late M.H. Johnson (That's not only his initials, but his actual name - "M.H.") was 100% Irish and was disowned by his family for marrying someone who was not of Irish blood. Granddad dumped the Catholic following for Granny's Baptist rearing.

My Aunts & Uncles on Dad's side of the family (Typical large Irish family - 7 boys & 3 girls) are products of the Irish/Cherokee union between MH & Malzerine Johnson (Granny was known as "Malzie"), but you cannot tell where the Cherokee went - they're also of white complection like me (My Dad was the only child of the Irish/Cherokee mix to show the more Cherokee traits - He was of a red complection).

The genealogy on the Johnson side of the family goes way back to Ireland (I cant recall the specific name of the area in Ireland, but it is located in modern day Northern Ireland) and beyond - So Happy St.Patrick's Day to all of Irish blood.

It saddens me to know that the Irish live with strife like that...

One day, I hope to visit there. Its the only place I really want to travel to.

That's cool. I think I told you this before but my daughter's grandfather is 1/2 Cherokee. You can't really see it in her, just a little around the cheekbones/eyes but you can tell her father is part Cherokee. It's an interesting mix.
