I mentioned this in another thread, but I would love to recommend the book The Satan Seller by Mike Warnke. It was supposed to be 'real', and he fooled thousands, but it later turned out to be a giant load of crap, but still a really good read

Favorite authors:

Iris Murdoch

Philip Roth (*falls also under the category "famous people you 'd love to meet"*)

Alain de Botton

and I really enjoy reading Agatha Christie's books, esp. those featuring Hercule Poirot

Elie - I love Philip Roth too. I once saw him in a shopping Mall in London with his then girlfriend Clare Bloom. I followed him for a bit (trying to be inconspicuous and not too stalker like).
I really wanted to say hello but then I remembered he's not supposed to be very nice to fans so I chickened out! I didn't want to have a bad memory of him.

I'm reading American pastoral at the moment.

I think that'a exactly what I would have done if I had run into him in a shop or something. I don't really like talking to famous people. I would have preferred to meet him at a dinner or something - you know, impossible things lol-.
I am reading Letting Go at the moment. I can't for the life of me believe that someone at the age of 29 can write like that.
