Yea... I learned about caffeine and cranberry juice the hard way. Thought I had a UTI so drank some cranberry juice every day for a week, after 2 cups of coffee... then it moved. The good news is, your good luck wish worked... something DID appear in the strainer this morning and is now at the lab. YAY!! Now to wait and find out how many more things I should limit or cut out of my diet. Life without Starbucks in the morning won't be the same. {sniff} I feel amazingly normal and it's very cool. That was a nightmare. I'll be paranoid of back pain from now on too.

I was always shocked at how small they actually are. For all the pain and problems they cause, they look like a little, reddish pebble.

Let me know what the lab finds...I bet its a calcium stone. I still drink coffee...I just do not overdo it with the caffeine. They say iced tea is really bad for people prone to that type of KS, so I have quit drinking that altogether. I drink as much coffee as I want in the morning (two cups or so) and then I am careful with anything else I drink.

BTW..if you get more than two in a year, they might recommend putting you on medication. I am not on any but it was an option. (that was the urologist, not my primary doc who treats me for pain when I get one)

I am very happy for you that the ordeal is over!

That's what I thought... how could that tiny thing cause such misery? Yes, it was reddish and a bit translucent. Looked like a tiny seed pod. I wasn't sure, so I pressed on it carefully with my little finger and it went CRUNCH. Was like hitting the jackpot. I felt silly trying to figure out what to do with it, being all careful hurrying across town with the plastic cup trying to get to the lab before it closed for the weekend. My uncle has gout, grandmother and mother have arthritis. Based on a bit of research, wondering if it's uric acid. Did you know William Shatner sold his kidney stone on Ebay? Eewww..

I'm not sure I'd take the medication either. Although if I get a 3rd stone, maybe. Glad to know I probably won't have to give up coffee altogether. But will have to always remember to drink plenty of water and other acceptible liquids every day, no matter what. I love iced tea, but I can do without it. Lattes would be harder to give up.

I'll let you know what I find out from the lab.

Thanks! I'm really happy too!

You were right... 10% calcium phosphate and 90% calcium oxylate - which explains why it looked like a seed pod! No more iced tea for me...?? iced coffee is good too.
