I Have the Mumps

I have been home-bound all week and Im being driven nuts. Monday through to wednesday I had the worst headache of my life that everytime I moved my head rolled and I felt like throwing up, and I feel fit as a fiddle now, but my face is swollen on one side - I look completely stupid

and just now I thought I would have a lollipop, and I did not realise that you cannot have acidy things with the mumps because it overworks your saliva glands which are the glads which are swelling on my face, and now my fave hurts like a bitch

Anybody else had the mumps and can sympathise with me

Wow - I didn't even know people still got the mumps. At least the ailment you have has a cute name! :p

Seriously though, that sucks...how long does the mumps affect people? I'm really sorry - feeling sick is no good :distress:

Yeah, mostly it affects children under 10, but trust me to get it at almost 20

According to wikipedia, it usually lasts 12-18 days. My doctor had no idea how long it would last. He just gave me painkillers and sent me packing.

Now the terrible headaches have gone, Im stuck with a baboon face - its really embarrasing

Sorry, sweetie. I've never even heard of anyone getting those. :(

No one here has heard of the Mumps? it is a very common childhood virus. Most people I know have had it before...

Here is some info on it at wikipedia The Mumps

No, no. I know what the mumps are, I said I've never heard of anyone getting it. Meaning, I've never known anyone, or heard of anyone personally, who has gotten mumps.

never had mumps, but I do have an inner ear infection. I've denied it all day and now I just have to face it. with my Cali trip coming up, I hope it passes soon.

I feel like total ****take.

Sorry to hear you've felt so crappy. It's rare to get the mumps in the US because we vaccinate for them. I guess New Zealanders don't get the MMR vaccine?

I don't think so. I have never heard of it :( I wish we had it though - its horrible!

I am sorry! That sucks! I have an alergic reaction to something a while back that made my whole face swell up! Its was insane! I REALLY HAD NO EYES :D

Bless your heart!
Take care of yourself and rest... rest... rest....
I had "the funk" a couple of weeks ago so I totally sympathize with anyone who gets sick with anything.

Babies are vaccinated for measles, mumps and rubella here in the US. Its one vaccine for all three diseases.....and they get their first MMR immunization at two months. (I think its two months, they get something at two weeks but I think that is a DPT)
I have never heard of anyone actually having mumps either...I hope you feel better soon.
Chicken pox can be very serious if gotten by adult males...although the US vaccinates for the chicken pox now too. That vaccine is only a few years old though so most adults have probably already had the dreaded pox.
