It was not a typo. The whole thing
was/is lame. The terrorists accomplished exactly what they wanted to do. The loss of life was horrendous. However, the only way the terrorists would succeed is for the American public to react to the attack based on the visceral emotions of 3,000 people dying.
Because of the american public playing into the hands of the terrorists, it allowed an evil administration to do its evil work. Because of the weakness of the american public, because it could stand up and say
"It doesn't matter that you did this- we will not lower ourselves to your level by resorting to violence and perpetuating the never-ending cycle of bitterness and war.". Because the american public did not say
"The world did not change on this day because of the actions of a handful of people- there were evil terrorists before this day and there will be evil terrorists after this day and we will not let your actions change who we are."
Because of those things, the american public allowed the unnecessary deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis, not to mention the deaths of an additional 3,000 americans in an invasion of a sovereign nation based on lies and evildoing.
Because of those things, there is an entire generation of people who now see the U.S.A. as a nation of evil- as a nation of aggressors.
The american public saw those evil acts and reacted with fear and retribution. Exactly what the terrorists wanted. Exactly. Which is why it is lame.

If you had bothered to read what I wrote, you would see I was speaking in comparative terms. In other words, I do not see a D candidate who has a better chance of winning than RG and RG is good on many social issues that the far religious right is oppressive on.

The problem I have with Rudy is that he is a moralistic hypocrite. I don't think government leaders should espouse the notion that suppression of the arts is acceptable. I also don't think that government leaders should blab on about morality while breaking those same "moral values". Granted, no one is perfect (certainly not me)- however, Rudy was no rose up until 09/11. He rallied New York together and was there for them and did his job well as the mayor during those times. But, I don't think that gives him a pass on his previous actions and that certainly doesn't warrant my support for him as a candidate for public office. It is possible for charismatic, likeable people to not be good candidates.

So, I get that he defended the cops in the tragic death of that guy, he refused to fund shiitte as art, and his use of police zones cut crime by like half - but comparatively I can live with those when compared to a person like Romney, Frist, or Santorum. Can you honestly say you can't either? And, it will come down to that I think, though I hope not.

I would rather not support ANY republicans.

As for the D's the only one I like so far is John Edwards and I do not think he can win. Hillary is an interesting choice and she could possibly win, but it would take luck in addition to her alleged $300 million war chest and please note that other than on partial birth abortion, she is hardly different than RG and he is not a kiss a$$ say anything to get elected sow like she is?
|
I don't support Hillary Clinton. I love her husband, though.

Also and to correct you because you need a little come uppence dear - RG's history on gay issues is stellar compared to most D's you support. I mean the man lived with a gay male couple, marched in gay rights parades, and dressed in drag on several occasions. So, my support of him hardly makes me a gay Uncle Tom.

I was a little blustery with the "Gay Uncle Tom" thing. Sorry it was so jabby. Some of your comments have seemed so Clarence Thomas-ey to me lately <---- no offense!!! Just an overall generalization. Sorry. I've been in such an ennui malaise blah, blah, blah, that I'm really not taking the time to express myself properly at times.
