He's not classicly my type, either, but I really think he is funny. And I like his teeth. And i'm only 5'3".

Okay, but mainly he is funny. And he doesn't seem very dumb in real life.

I hate when ppl have nice bodies, but their face is nasty. Exhibit A: Sean Williams Scott.

He's a Hollywood actor, they're probably capped.

But if he gets you hot, more power to ya.

The pointy nose and weirdly shaped eyes don't light my fire, either, but he's still too damn short. I'm over six feet, so anything under that is too little for me (unless it's a chick

). And ripped bods on shortys just don't look...proportionate.

See, now I thought it was a major (albeit deeply flawed) achievement. I found the use of CGI in it far more interesting than in other CGI-filled epics the past several years. It's an amazing movie the way that "Ivan the Terrible" or Gance's "Napoleon" is amazing -- it's loony-visionary. The battle scenes (particularly the first battle scene) pulse with perspective, irony & symbolism; Alexander tells his soldiers that they are free men, in contrast to the hordes who serve Darius. But their freedom is defined by Alexandar's dominating will & their own concept of freedom as nothing more than personal gain & self-interest. And the use of the eagle in that scene is amazing -- it bespeaks a director with a true sense of the sublime, not just a computer geek like Peter Jackson, Wolfy Peterson, James Cameron or dozens of others. Alexandar rallies his men with a speech about the superiority of the Macedonians because of their concept of individuality. The Persians await the battle across the field -- silent, stone-faced, subservient robots. Alexandar's horse stomps the earth restlessly, but then something strange & remarkable occurs: the image turns blue & there is silence. You see an eagle, & you're suddenly borne aloft, above the armies. You're gliding a mile or more above it all, but you can still hear faint echoes of Alexander's voice, as if his words had risen through the atmosphere to the abode of the gods.

A lot of the movie is a mess: crude & boffo. But it has vision & breadth, & it kept me entertained. It's like a psychedelic omelet filled with everything from Shakespeare to Freud to Nietzsche, & topped with shredded Hunter S. Thompson cheese. All pretend-epics should be like this: gutsy, brash & slightly loony -- the way Gance approached "Napoleon" or Griffith "Intolerance" or Bertolucci "Novecento." These are primordially personal filmmaking statements, not the bland, mass-produced swill you get from committees of shirts at the studios.
