I'm not hating on Lindsey. I'm making an observation. That is how I interpret Tusk after listening through it many many times. Btw, the "what a load of crap" comment was a little rude. Last edited by Wdm6789; 01-29-2016 at 11:17 PM.. |

Tusk has always been my favorite album since its release. After the release of this amazing box set its like I'm appreciating it at new level. What Lindsey did with Stevie and Christine's songs to fit in with his songs and vision was spot on. He was and is a master at his trade. I can't wait to hear what's next.

Clearly, the millions that loved Rumours did *not* love Tusk, and Lindsey's blood, sweat and tears are the #1 reason - but just don't say it out loud.

The only drawback to this version is that not all 3 voices are on it at the end. Those outro Over and Overs would've been fantastic with some harmony on them! I'll still give the edge to the album cut for now (and an outtake I have somewhere), but this will probably grow on me.

Over and Over is a favorite track of mine on Tusk, and always has been. The version on Alternate Tusk is gorgeous, but does feel different with those missing harmonies.
The live one from the new Deluxe Tusk is pretty straightforward, almost causal sounding in comparison to the album version - I might even say Christine sounds bored - until you get to the ending, and it really kicks in - I absolutely love it. The guitar! And Stevie's voice feels essential to the whole thing, which isn't really noticeable until you hear the alternate version without her vocals. ** Despite what I said earlier about Lindsey and Tusk, I think the album is a masterpiece, completely, and I wouldn't change a thing. But I think it's important to be accommodating to the opinions of others instead of attacking them or calling them 'a load of crap', and there are many who just don't care for the way Tusk turned out. From Mick telling Lindsey he "blew it" to the lackluster sales in comparison to Fleetwood Mac and Rumours. He tried to stay true to the audio aesthetic of both Stevie and Chris, but he still bears responsibility for the final product as the credited producer. Lindsey demanded complete creative control, and threatened to walk if he didn't get it, so Mick gave it to him and I'm sure no other member was going to challenge him in the studio. Tusk was Lindsey's pet project, and I feel its completely acceptable to look his direction when discussing aspects of the production that aren't appealing, be it his own songs, or the decisions made on Stevie and Chris' songs. Yes, Lindsey worked hard, but what he did was a turnoff to some - it's obvious through interviews over the years that he was trying to break a mold, and hearing alternate versions of some songs lends credibility to the idea that not all the decisions he is ultimately responsible for were the best decisions. Someone else not liking his work - or Stevie's work - or Chris' work doesn't affect your own enjoyment of said work. Speaking for myself, but also for others, the tendency of some Ledge members to immediately go on the offensive anytime they don't agree with an opinion has been a huge factor in driving people away from posting here. But I guess it's always been that way, and probably won't ever change. I won't name names, but the Stevie forum isn't dead without reason, and it has nothing to do with Stevie's output or activity.

It's unfair only if all 5 were equally responsible for the way it came out. And if that is the case, it would be equally unfair for those who consider Tusk to be a masterpiece to give Lindsey the lion's share of the credit.
