I absolutely wouldn't want to know, unless it was fairly imminent. Anyway, I'm going to live till I'm at least 150, and I may decide not to die at all. On the basis of current trends, life will be amazingly good by the time I'm about 80, so I reckon I can't wait.
Somebody said they thought that at 21, life couldn't get any better. When I was 21, I knew life couldn't get any worse, and hey, I was absolutely right. Life was pretty crap back then, and stayed that way till I was about 27. Then it got better once a few people had f**ked off at last, and I got on with what I wanted to do, which was as little as possible. I've always been dirt-poor, so I don't think that makes any difference really, but I'm sure that lots of money could only improve things - I think it was Dave Lee Roth that said "Anyone who thinks money can't buy you happiness isn't going to the right shops." Unwanted responsibility only comes if you don't plan against it. Getting older will undoubtedly throw up some rubbish like aches and pains, family members dropping off etc, but I feel much more able to live life than I was 10 years ago. Having said all that, I think this thread proves that our view of getting old and dying depends on the lives we've each led so far. I feel like I haven't even started yet. |
