Tonight finally they’ll show the Friends finale in WB LatinAmerica (though I already know how it ends).
Yesterday they showed a Friends special at A&E. A columnist said that this show was the favorite of the Generation X. They were caught by this because it showed everything they thought, felt, etc. I’m not sure. First of all, since I’m a guy from the 80s (I’m 38 so I don’t think I belong to the generation x) , when the 90s arrived, it came with a bunch of boring things. The 80s were very cool. Kind of commercial, yes, maybe full of material girl, Duran Duran, Culture Club and Ronald Reagan, but cool anyway. I guess in the 90s they tried to deny the superficial things (ok, that was good) and go back to more deep stuff (hard to me to describe in english what I want to say, but I’ll try my best). So then (early 90s) I started to hear about that Generation X. To me, this was expressed in two movies and alternative music. When they say alternative music, I immediately think in Counting Crows. Some cool songs, but I can’t listen a whole album. It’s too boring. And the two movies: SINGLES, a very cool movie. Maybe because the main characters also missed the 80s. And REALITY BITES. So boring!!! Actually in SouthAmerica it was translated as Generación X. So everytime I listen about the generation X, I remember Reality Bites and Counting Crows. And... Friends has little common with Reality Bites and Counting Crows.!! I my opinion the generation X didn’t have sense of humor, so Friends couldn’t be their symbol. It’s my feeling. Maybe the generation x is far more than that. But it’s what I just kew about it. |
