Well I guess the unveiling of the new gloves was the suprise new look.
It was more of a petulant "calm down, it's only the second show!" I wish I could have that tweet tattooed on my arm. Priceless.

The guy that wrote this sounds a miserable ****! There is just no pleasing some people I guess.

You have to admire 66-year-old Rod Stewart's vigour. As well as singing in the sweltering heat in front of about 45,000 fans for two hours, he recently became a father for the eighth time. ...
Don't wish to be bitchy, but Rod's latest was an IVF job. In fact, I laughed like a drain when someone said to him in an interview 'So there's still plenty of lead in your pencil, eh, Rod?' *snort* - and he goes, 'Not just that, but I've got someone to write to as well!' - and I'm like wtf? That doesn't even make sense. Just the usual lazy confusion between virility ('vigour') and fertility.

It was basically her job to rev up the crowd for Rod, and on that front she succeeded (from all accounts). I think she would have been mortified at the thought of playing brand new songs that nobody had ever heard of in this kind of setting. As she proved at the Wiltern show, she is perfectly able and willing to play her new songs. As such, I have every reason to believe that a third of her headlining American tour set will be new songs.
You took the words right out of my mouth!! The only time the crowd went quieter was when she sung Fall From Grace which is not one of the UK known songs. I def. think she chose the right songs for this situation

The crowd still went nuts for Fall From Grace once she'd finished it, despite it not being very well known.

I agree with everything said, it was a festival set and she was not headlining. And based on the Absolute Radio interview, she thinks she doesn't have a career here at all solo and is starting from scratch. And where better to start?

Agreed. I mean, it would have been awesome to hear some of the new tracks, but I don't think it would have been the right environment. I think she played just the right balance between songs people would recognise (Dreams, Rhiannon), and songs that would make people interested in her work as a solo artist (Outside the Rain, Fall From Grace). And judging by the sounds that the audience were making - at least, from where I was standing - everyone was responding to everything she chose to sing.

28th June 2011 By Kim Dawson

FLEETWOOD Mac favourite Stevie Nicks picked the right day of the festival to grace the stage.

Adjusting her shades, Stevie Nicks laughed and admitted: “This is the first concert I’ve done in sunglasses.” And boy did she shine.

Opening with Stand Back, the set was peppered with solo and band favourites, as well as Secret Love from her new record, which is out this week. Dreams, Gold Dust Woman and Rhiannon brought out the nostalgia in the mesmerised crowd, while Edge Of Seventeen gave a hint of bootyliciousness as Beyoncé played a field over on Worthy Farm.

But it was headliner Rod Stewart who naturally stole the show. All his hits poured out as he gyrated across the stage like a man half his age. Do Ya Think I’m Sexy was answered by roars from middle-aged women seemingly back in their teenage years, while Sailing sent arms shooting in the air for a slow wave back and forth.

Stevie returned to duet with Rod on Young Turks, and Ronnie Wood cranked up his guitar for an energetic Maggie May and Stay With Me.

A perfect end to day three of HRC.

Just wanted to add a little about the setlist.

She came out to 'Stand Back' (which I shed a few tears over, very emotional ... or it could have been the cider ) which, as I recall, Rod covered awhile back. It was perfect as this was, on the whole, a 'Rod' crowd and they would know the song. 'Secret Love' has been getting a ton of airplay over here, seriously, in fact I'm hearing that even our local radio stations are playing lots of Stevie songs - not FM, *Stevie* - which, honestly, almost never happens in the UK. She uses 'Outside The Rain' to segue into 'Dreams', again very, very well known over here ... same with 'Rhiannon'. I think 'Fall From Grace' was a nod to her fans and also worked as a rockier song in the context of the day. 'Edge of Seventeen' - well, a few of my friends said that some of the crowd were like 'Oh, she's doing Beyonce !' *face palm* But, again, it was a well known track and the audience maybe wouldn't have realised that 'Bootylicious' was built around the riff from 'Eo17'. 'Landslide', again has been getting lots of airplay thanks to 'Glee'.

She picked it perfectly, IMO.

Oh, I have to say something about the 'Rod-alikes' ! You think we're bad with the chiffon thing and the boots but these fellas were all getting on a bit and they were *everywhere* ! If they had even a little bit of hair it was spiked up a la Rod and they braved the sweltering heat in shirts, ties and jackets

So agree with you and when I said the audience were quieter - I have to say only marginally quieter - I was surrounded by Stevie fans who were loving it, but when I looked back it looked like the crowd were not going quite so mad. Shame Stevie thinks she is starting from scratch - hope the experience in London has helped to make her realise that we need to see her here solo - please!!!

precisely...
a voluminous silk pashmina or shawl is actually conducive to staying cool and comfortable in obscenely hot weather where a tie certainly is not....
Boots? Well in a concert any extra height sure is helpful especially if you're 5foot like me

I had a bunch of drunk rod fans in front of me. Talked through most of Stevie and then when Edge started one very loudly shouted 'She's doing Beyonce'

Morons...

Alison Goulding Compares herself to Stevie. Here's an excerpt from her article:

After that I was hanging onto the microphone so tightly my knuckles went white as I entered a parallel world where I was, in fact, Stevie Nicks. The next day I was full of regret and as I broke into a sweat on the tube I remembered, for the first time in two years, what it feels like to have a hangover.
