I know, right? Seems to be the way of the land the past 10 odd years. But the best way to get back to 'live and let live' is by doing just that. I may not agree with FleetwoodMark, for instance, but he's entitled to his approach/opinions, and I'm entitled to mine.

Hits.nail.on.head.

Yes, that is the land we now live in. And the PROBLEM is, everyone likes to think that it's only conservative, religious, right wing America, that thinks this way. But it's not only them. It's everybody.
I live in a liberal mecca(for the mid-west), and most of the uber liberal, "free thinking", "OPEN" people, are more narrow minded, than the Pentecostal people I know.
Most of my artsy fartsy, musician, vegan, gay and lesbian friends, are as narrow minded, as anyone I've ever met.

Mick, you said it. Think like me, or die.

Thanks. As a result I try to be as open as possible. It's hard boy....But I try my hardest. Because I see my country falling that way....it's sad

I can't add anything to that - it's EXACTLY how I feel, especially that last bit

The number of people in the West who choose not to have kids is far outweighed by the number of people elsewhere in the world who choose to have 6 or 8 kids. Overpopulation is not really caused by the West, where birth rates are generally pretty low. The birth rate in the US is about 14 births per 1000 people and 11 in the UK - in Africa and parts of the Middle East it's up past 35, towards 50 in some cases. The average is about 20.

People not having kids in the West aren't going to save us from overpopulation...

I actually own a Mr. Beer brewing kit. I made many batches, about 5 years ago....and without going into detail, I started getting boils. Started researching boils, and they're caused by impurities in your blood. That homemade beer has tons of sh*t floating around in it. I stopped the homebrew, and voila, no more boils.

Very true--the vast majority of population growth in the last 50 years has been in the third world. However, in extremely developed countries like America, the average person consumes far more resources than the average person in India, and I think it's basically unsustainable. So when people make the choice not to have children, I think it's quite generous of them, actually.

True. But then in 20 years or so, we can expect the average person in India to be consuming many times the resources that they currently do. China is a good example of how previously impoverished nations gain serious wealth in a fairly short time. As parts of the developing world grow their economies, then their people will ratchet up their consumption of food and, importantly, oil. Car ownership in China has gone through the roof in 10 years. The world's oil will run out faster than was predicted just a few years ago.

Also, I don't think anyone chooses not to have children as an act of generosity to the world - though I don't think you meant it that way
