You are so correct and of course, I totally agree!
But the only thing is that it was TWENTY NINE YEARS AGO that Rolling Stone named her 'The Reigning Queen Of Rock and Roll!- It needs to be re-affirmed, somewhere, in print.
I just remembered that back in 1983, an announcer at Stevie's great US Festival appearance growled "THE FIRST LADY OF ROCK AND ROLLL!"- I believe this was after she'd just left the stage; she'd given a wildly great performance, and right before the announcer told everyone to wait just a few minutes for David Bowie, who in '83 was at a career peak and was the closing act that night. Bowie was great and I was a huge Bowie fan, but Stevie really connected with the crowd in a way no other act that day did- but Bono haters, sorry- He and U2 were beyond awesome, also, and it made their career in LA explode. I think the US Festival is what made U2 happen hugely in The States.
I'm linking Stevie's 'Edge of Seventeen' performance from the US Festival, below.
Look at her frantic and fast run out towards the audience, that comes at about the 7:03 mark in this 10 minute clip- Stevie had to jump down multiple levels in those platform boots (there were either 2 or 3 different stages, I forget which now). Stevie and acts like U2 and Bowie used the same 'big stage' but acts that played earlier in the day, like Quarterflash and Berlin, used the smaller stage to the left and down from the 'big' stage, Watch Stevie take a mad and fearless running dash off one stage, down to another, and I believe down to an even lower stage to touch some fans hands. She was so perfect that night.
