I hope that you find that light bulb, as soon as you're ready!
You know....not that someone wouldn't/shouldn't/couldn't love you, just the way you are. For me, this weight loss has nothing to do with "them". F*** them! (I'm kidding). But it IS about me. Only me. Feeling better about myself.
Yeah, me too,(about the heart-break) but you know my story.
I think I'm ready. It's just finding someone. And I don't know where to go or start. I just keep telling myself it's gonna happen when it's supposed to.

And I'm not a BIG girl... but I'm not skinny like I used to be. I want to lose weight because I'm built just like my dad, and now I'm seeing him turning into a diabetic and have heart problems. I don't want that problem.

Yeah, I know.
I can't help it, in that I like em younger than me. Do you know what I told my friend, the other night? I said, "I feel good about who I am now, for the first time in a long time! And I'm willing to endure some rejection, for the possibility of meeting the right one." So I'm just throwing myself on their mercy, letting them know that I'm a nice, trustworthy guy. And it's been paying off for me. Slow and steady wins the race.
I lack self-confidence....when I was heavy, I COULDN'T do that. I couldn't!

And after a three month breakup, with the one I've liked the most, we had an email makeup, over Christmas break. I picked her up at the airport in Indy, last night. And things went well. Thus, my lack of sleep today.

And I know you're not obese. You know, look at my cholesterol numbers. The #1 health issue in this country, is the obesity epidemic! And believe me, I know how hard the battle is! I've fought it since about 8th grade!

Do your girls have weight issues? Because I'm sure it makes it harder, if they love to eat, too!

Well, I'm happy for you that you "kissed" and made up! haha!

The girls... well, both of them took after my husband. When he was a kid, he was BIG!!! He started slimming down when he was about 16/17. Samantha is 17, and she's starting to slim down. She was what she called "the fat kid" in elementary and junior high, but I think she looks great now. Sara is just like the both of them. She's a big girl for 11. I just measured her, and she's 5'1", and last dr. visit she weighed around 130. So, she's a big girl as well. But I know she'll grow into that, and be thin in a few years. What kills me is that I don't feed them junk, cook with grease and butter, or buy cookies and candy.

(I couldn't believe I just measured her at 5'1"!!! 2 more inches and she'll be as tall as me!)

As for you, missy, 117 is too thin bordering on unhealthy, IMO. What if you focused more on weight training for health reasons/toning as opposed to cardio? Do you still lose weight with just weights?
Hmm, I've never tried weights, but that's not a bad idea. You were right to guess that I usually just do cardio, and the pounds fly off when I do. It's not about the number, though, I'd really just like to be toned.

Paula, am I right to remember that you made a big effort to get in shape a few years ago and really kicked ass doing it? I haven't read this whole thread, so maybe you've even already talked about it here, but I'm sure people would be helped by your story if you wouldn't mind sharing it.

Or I've made all of that ^ up and you can ignore me

Let me improve your quote, "Nothing tastes as good as a 21yo pie*e of ***!"

AND, btw, let me add, my doctor has been threatening me with cholesterol meds, for the past year. Went two weeks ago.....guess what? I don't NEED EM! Cholesterol has dropped 41 points, through weight loss only. Doctor said, "whatever you're doing, keep it up!"

So, you're a nurse, is there actually something wrong, with getting too thin?
I really shouldn't have been so negative in my response to your post. Better to be on the lighter end of normal weight than overweight, that's for sure. And my husband isn't skeleton skinny or anything, he's just not beefy. Course, I like tall thin men who look like they're 17, so it's all good with me.

And too thin? I would only worry if you started obsessively watching every single thing you ate & freaked out if you gained 5 pounds. The fact that you kind of forgot about it & lost the rest of the weight is probably a good thing. Sounds like you simply changed the way you live/eat & this is now your normal. Good for you. The lower cholesterol is awesome. As long as you're eating a pretty balanced diet, I personally don't see an issue.

Your girls looked normal size to me when I saw them. sara has a bit of "baby fat" but I hate that it's even called that. Kids hear that & get obsessed over weight.

The Core Secrets workout did wonders to tone my body. I suppose any similar routine would do the same thing. You really only need 20-30 min 2 or 3 days a week in my experience.

No, you recall correctly. I was between 10-20 pounds overweight pretty much since high school. I'd lose a few, gain it back eventually. Never was obsessed with my body or depressed about it or anything, but about 3 years ago I realized I just didn't feel good. Felt out of shape & weak. Didn't want to follow my parents down the road to obesity, high blood pressure & diabetes.

I started doing Weight Watchers - didn't join, just figured out the points system (well, copied it from a few friends that had joined) & followed it. Started doing 30-45 min of cardio 4-5 days a week, and weight/resistance exercises 2-3 times a week. Do most of my workouts in front of the TV, watching shows on the DVR.

I wanted to lose 15 pounds initially & ended up losing about 23. Reached an ideal weight for my height, and my cholesterol levels dropped too. I got so toned, I saw muscles I had never seen on my body in my life (literally!) After about 6 months it wasn't a weight loss program anymore, it became my normal life. Still is. Kept the weight off for over 2 years.

Now I'm back at it to lose the baby weight. Doing well so far - slow & steady wins the race. I'd like to get back into all the clothes I bought over those 2 years. Not too concerned with an exact number on the scale, but I figure about 10 more pounds should do it. If I drop it by my birthday in April, I'll be quite happy. it's been a lot easier than I thought it would be. WW really did make me change my lifestyle - it's NOT a diet anymore. Hasn't been for a long long time. This is just the way I eat now.

I didn't take it negatively. I have lost enough, but I really don't want to give up these eating habits.

I never thought Mark(it is "Mark", right? - I'm a name-o-phobe) looked too thin, in the pics you've posted.

Well, and the family's saying, "don't lose any more!". But I think the new cholesterol #'s speak for themselves. I'm simply a healthier Dave, now! ('tucky loves it, when I refer to myself in the 3rd person).

Thanks, I feel like a new me!

I'm 5'7 and somewhere around 150 - 154. (I've just had to convert this from stones to pounds!) I'm not overweight, I've just worked out my BMI to be 24.1 - I definitely feel overweight though. I'd like to lose about 28lbs. I've got really skinny legs and wrists and a relatively thin waist. I tend to get bigger boobs and hips when I put weight on straight away, so I can always tell when I need to cut back on food!

Even though I'm a guy, that's me, too. For years, people "thought" I was a pretty big guy, until they'd see me in shorts, and call me "chickenlegs" My arms and legs are really pretty small, so I never carried weight well. All gut, neck, and face.

I think what really upsets me is the fact that when I was young (oh God) my proportions were literally perfect. 36-26-36. I was 118, 5'3", and a size 7. Between not losing the weight from when I was pregnant, and then getting a job where I sat on my ass and ate all the time, I've managed to put on an extra 60 pounds, give or take. It's awful. I need to become motivated again and lose the weight. It's upsetting...

I think that's probably a plus as well though, because legs and arms are harder to lose weight off than the belly or face. My love handles are evenly distributed all over my body.

Like I said, I've got big hips and boobs. The sad thing is, if I lose any weight (like I have the past couple of weeks off being ill, so I could be lighter than what I said) it comes straight off the boobs.

I would guess, that it's probably harder, losing weight, when you have kids. So, even if you don't have a love life, you still have a family life, so your time is consumed, just being with them. Being alone, I think, makes it much easier. Also, you have to cook for them.

One thing that helped me, I think, is that I've continually bought new clothes as I've lost weight. Sometimes, clothes that are a little too small. I call that, a "motivational shirt"! (I've not spent a whole lot.....I've learned that I'm not too good for Goodwill - plus, if you really watch at GW, you can get some nice clothes, cheap)

Damn, everyone here is tall. I'm short and pear or squash shaped, depending on your fruit or veg preference. I can't gain any weight or I look like an oompa loompa. I'd like to lose a little, but I've been at plateau lately, so whatever. I'm more in maintenance mode than anything.

I'm pretty muscular now, but thanks to the body shape, I'm probably always going to have big thighs no matter what I do. fml. And cellulite, what the hell? Can this not happen please?

I'm actually very underweight right now - around 125 pounds - I lost a LOT of weight when my Mom was ill. But it's starting to come back now; I'm eating well and beginning to think about working out again and beginning to feel stronger. My optimal weight is probably around 150 pounds and I think I'll probably be back in that ballpark by the end of the year.
