Default Curious

Before I say what I'm about to say I just want everyone to know it's not meant to be critical, but more to satisfy my curiosity about the excitement and in some cases disappointment over the signed lithograph.

For me, I don't really understand what the big appeal is to have something Stevie (or anyone) wrote their name on. I personally would never buy an autograph, even if I was positive it was legitimate because I think the thrill is in meeting the person, perhaps having your photo taken with them and having them sign something specifically to you. I once had a neighbor who happened to be eating dinner at the same restaurant as Stevie when she was in my town on tour. He got her autograph on a napkin and offered to give it to me. While I was PO'ed that he was lucky enough to meet her, and wasn't even really a fan, I had no desire to have an autograph that I didn't get myself. Again, that's just how I feel about it.

So for those of you who are excited to receive this, or those who won't be what is it that excites you about this? Is it just because Stevie touched it, and in a way it will make you feel close to her? Or is it more a feeling of having something "collectible" like a signed piece of art?

For me, it's the part I bolded. I'm a MAJOR collector of all things Mac. Even when I do meet celebs in person, I would much rather have a photo with them than ask them to prove to me that they know how to write their own name.

What I'm angry about in this instance, is the misleading, conniving way that Warner Bros. extorted the diehard fans - yet again. Fan Club Fiasco of 2003?? Anyone??

Here's how the pre-order offer should have been written:

Stevie's epic Soundstage Sessions concert in Chicago!
The DVD features over 2 hours of stunning footage from this legendary concert! The CD includes brand new studio versions of classics like "Stand Back", "Sara", "Landslide" and MANY, MANY MORE! Order by March 31, 2009 and receive a free lithograph (one per order); the first (exact number) to order this STEVIE NICKS LIMITED EDITION CD/DVD SET will receive a lithograph personally signed by Stevie Nicks! Click HERE to Pre-Order now!

Had it read that way to begin with, I'd have no reason to bitch.

Exactly...the word "handful" is so ambiguous.

Yes, but the point I'm really trying to make here is that they should have let everyone know from the very beginning that "a" lithograph would definitely be included with each order - signed or unsigned, depending on when your order was received.

Yes, I agree they should have written it that way, at least they should have indicated on the order form, prior to submission, whether your order would include the litho. The Nicks Fix should also remove that part, but that might mean less orders, so it will probably be up there until the release day.

I placed my order at 6pm Eastern time Friday night which was about 25 minutes from when I got the Warner Brothers e-mail. My order says unsigned lighograph. (It must have been updated recently because I checked at 2:30 and there was no mention of a lithograph at that time.) I don't check this forum everyday (I guess I should) so I guess I was a day too late but I figured that if I ordered with in the first 1/2 hr I would be pretty sure to get a signed lithograph. Warner Brothers should have taken that off their e-mail if they were all gone. I guess that is what gets orders though. I think a number as to how may signed lithographs would have been nice. The 1st 5 or 50 would have given people more of an idea on if they had a shot at it or not. I am happy that at least I get a lithograph. It would be more fun to try to get it signed myself anyway.

Yeah, okay, I'm disappointed here. I ordered within 24 hours of that announcement going up on the NicksFix and my order details say "unsigned" lithograph.

I am also a major collector, so I was looking forward to having a new signed piece that wasn't going to cost me an arm and a leg. Totally disappointed. Sigh.

PS - I noticed last night that another Warner artist I am a big fan of, Mastodon, is promoting their new CD in a limited edition the same way, with the same wording. The first "handful" to order will get a signed lithograph.

We should try to get a count to see how many people on here have the signed litho in their order confirmation...i just checked mine, and it was updated to unsigned I ordered 24 hours after the offer was posted, so i guess they weren't kidding when they said the first
"handful" would receive one.

That is definitely the work of Warner...trying to be so damn clever in their promotions

Firt off I'd like to say I didn't order the set (for reasons I can't say ) but I think what they are doing is borderline illegal. They should have to specify how many were signed. At the very least they should have had a program on their website that took orders until all "signed" lithographs were exhausted. And then of course you could have decided whether or not you wanted to order the set with the unsigned litho. Gambling is illegal, right?

I have a few of the "artwork postcards" from CV, they really weren't that special. What was funny about it though, was that the Stevie artwork postcards were going for more money on Ebay than what the CV set cost from WB's store. Collectors, what a silly bunch we are. I'm up to my eyeballs in this stuff.

Not telling anyone what to do, but you could teach them a lesson by canceling your order. Just an idea.

I ordered at 6:13 a.m. CST on Friday, 2/20 and have confirmation of a "signed" lithograph. At this point, I don't know what to expect!!!

Mine says "unsigned". Oh well, at least I"m getting one and i was going to order this anyway so big deal. It's not the most important thing to me-and good thing too I guess. I ordered on Friday, at about 9am Eastern time btw.

Oh, for cryin' out loud...right before I left work, I checked mine again and got the same thing...I'm home now and wanted to get a screen cap of it and now the damn order status link won't work.

Guess our emails got through to someone, or they're lurking here...where's that shooting the finger emoticon?

BTW, I ordered mine at 12:26 PM CST on Friday, 4 HOURS BEFORE I received the Warner Bros. e-mail at 4:33 PM CST.

I got a reply from Warner to my email complaining:

"We apologize, this product was available on www.nicksfix.com starting on 2/19/09. Within 24 hours we received over 500 orders and we have since found out that only the first 100 will be receiving the autographed version of the lithograph.

If you wish to cancel your order, we understand, just please let us know.

Sincerely,
Warner Bros Records Online Customer Support"

I ordered mine on the Friday, as well. No signed lithograph for me. Sigh. I'm going to write back and say, "So you didn't know how many you had before you started offering it for sale? Nice."

Well if anything - it's nice to know there's demand for this! That's pretty huge for a single day.
