Had you said something more interesting then what was being said, we would have gone with it. Sadly, that was not the case. Talking about people threadjacking does not count as "interesting", BTW. Unless you include something interesting with your complaint of threadjacking. Which you did not.

Look, I'm not laying blame, I'm as sad as you are that you didn't say something interesting enough that it had the power to thwart our threadjacking. I still think you might be a good person, though, despite that. I mean, it's possible if not probable. Take heart. You may have something interesting to say yet!!! Keep in mind that it has to be about the subject at hand to not be counted as threadjacking. According to your rules.

So, in summary, you have to say something interesting and compelling about the subject at hand to qualify for your own standards, the ones you have expressed here.
Aaaannnd...Go!!! Seriously, I'm waiting with baited breath. I'm sure you have it in you, something really interesting to say, that is not off topic!
I can only conclude that you have the goods, since you complained and all.

Show us your insight and rapier wit! Show us your never before heard of thoughts! The points of view no one has ever thought of! We await your wisdom...I know how hard it is, to express yourself originally and interestingly. The work that goes into arranging your thoughts as no one else has before, in hopes of amusing or informing your fellow man! To present them with something they haven't heard a million times before! To say it in a new way!
I'm sure you are up to the challenge, at least I assume so, from the desires for learned and fulfilling exchange that you have just expressed. Your crying out in angst about topics not being adhered to!!! Your pain sears my soul, I feel it in my very Stevie-est heart. Your pain at people not talking about rote topics in the same time tested way they have always been talked about before! The philistine way we let our minds stray to whims and fancies! Saying things other than what has been proscribed before as the proper thing to say!
We are like naked boobed Caribbeans, and you are like the civilizing Christian missionaries. Teach us the boring way, so that we may know the beauty of restraint and denial! Of not letting thoughts stray!! I look to you, oh pragmatic one of whose thoughts will show us the way.
Bestoweth, and stuff.

We're all just human. Supposedly.

See? You had another shining moment of "brill".

I'm totally stealing that phrase now.

Well, you are brill, so you should. I admire your fight against soul sucking boringness, sublimely coupled with occasional reasonable politeness and openmindedness.
Not that soul sucking dullness is wrong, per se...who am I to keep it down?
I'm not the boss of...that...everyone's opinion is valid...and stuff...in the eyes of...god and whatnot...everyone has something valuable to offer...is what I've heard and believe...

hey brandon - i missed this post you made and i want to say that my "blow me" sig is certainly not any comment towards you ok? I don't know if you felt that way but it was not my intent at all.

There's nothing wrong with that, but that doesn't mean the people trying to make that small difference are bad because they didn't pick the issue that is more tragic

I think issues like this are very personal. I don't judge anyone because they do or do not donate to charities and do volunteer work. I personally do (and btw...I donate to PETA AND the United States Humane Society, AND I volunteer at the local humane society. But I don't think that makes me more or less of an animal lover. It's just a personal choice, and something that makes my life complete) because there are so many more other things I wish I could do, so I just do what little I can. But to insinuate it's less important and we all should be fighting for something grander and better is offensive. I'm sorry that you didn't mean it that way, but that's the way it came across

Another thing about animal rights: I don't love babies, but they are just as innocent as animals. I would NEVER in a million years want someone to abuse children or hurt them in any way. But the fact of the matter is, they have a voice. They have more people fighting for them. Animals do too, to an extent, but kinda like you hinted-there are other more important things out there. (more important to other people, not myself). So the overall thought of society is that it's not a priority, but to me it is. Someone has to do it, and that's what I think of everytime I go to the shelter and help, or every time I pick up a stray on the side of the road. someone has to do it. It's just that not many do so it's kinda like fighting for the underdog. no pun intended.

I have a friend who works at the Animal Rescue Organisation. I have a 40 hour a week job, so I don't have that much time to put into it, but I manage to squeeze in a few hours every month to volunteer. I have her number on speed dial in case I come across something. For a year now we've been talking about opening up our own animal shelter, but getting funding is really hard. One day we'll manage to do that though.

But I still don't like dogs.

Well isnt judging me as a whole by saying "you have icky priorities" a little short sighted? I mean, all that everyone knows of me is what they've seen on these forums. No one knows me in person, nor I them. What you see here on these forums is only a tiny bit of everyone. Icky ideas? Hmm. Well I dont feel that way. I think most people thought that my "descriptive" abortion comment was to cause a rile, and sway the topic that way. In complete truth, it wasnt. Maybe its just the way my mind works. I never sat back and thought "OH, I cant wait to see where this one goes." And maybe because I even responded to the comments, I kept the dialogue going, which made it seem as though that was my "agenda." It indeed was not. It wasnt intentional. If I cant convince anyone of that, so be it. But thats how I feel about it. Besides...nothing i say really has any bearing on anyone's life. And there arent many on here that agree with a lot of my "personal beliefs"...so what does it matter to those here anyhow? I guess next time I'll just made glib comments on most things, if I am even capable of that.

yeah I'm sorry people took it that way. Again, its really me sort of thinking out loud. Maybe more me talking to myself even. I tend to have to backpedal and then explain myself and it turns into this big thing. Meh.

I know. that has always been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. animal rights/cruelty/protection for me=serious biz. And I understand totally. It's really hard, but i try to get in about the same as you. if i do it once or twice a month, i'm fulfilled.

blech. you suck.

meh, meh. I wasn't trying to turn it into a big thing. I was just pointing out why everyone else was upset, but also talking about my own personal opinion on it. I really wasn't jumping your case, so

you know, I've sympathized with your plight (in principle) from the beginning (even tho I abhor your abortion statement). I know firsthand exactly what you're talking about re: the dogpile mentality on this site. You make an unpopular statement and you might as well build yourself a bomb shelter because you will get slammed by the pack mentality.

This aint National Geographic and we dont need to see a wolfpack in action thank you very much.

I may not have agreed with Brandon's statement, but I dont agree with Sarah either that babies shouldnt be allowed to grow up to be adults because adults suck......of course, she DID say that Stout mellowed her attitude somewhat (please tell me how your constant drinking references protect you from the "drunk" moniker)

I DO agree with Amber that we have too many people to support now, and that indiscriminate procreation is irresponsible. That said, however, not every baby born is an unwanted baby (or an unprovided-for baby). My personal opinion is that the CHOICE to have a baby belongs to the parents involved, not the STATE or the FUNDIE PROPAGANDA JUGGERNAUT.

ok. carry on.
