Are you originally from Chicago? I grew up in the far south suburbs, close to the Indiana border. I can totally picture the woman you're talking about! I never realized what caricatures south suburbanites are until I moved to the north side. I think my hair deflated by default as soon as I moved out of the burbs! South suburban girls are the real Jersey girls. I think they actually probably better fit the stereotype some people have about Jersey girls.

I spent four years at Northwestern in beautiful downtown Evanston, where north suburbs stereotypes go both to spawn and to die! And to eat. Dining Capital of the North Shore represent!

I love the mircrocosm of American existence that is Chicagoland, I'll absolutely be moving back there someday.

We moved to Texas about a year ago. I really miss Chicago, though I definitely don't miss the cold! But I still have most of my family and many friends there, so I have an excuse to visit.

I LOVE Chicago!!!!!!

The Miracle Mile is amongst the best shopping there is on this planet!!!! For the LB Sounstage thingee - several Ledgies and some peeps from Nancy's board all got together and had a blast!!!!!!! I also used to visit a friend who used to live there. I love that town - but it is sooooooo cold for this magnolia

I lived in south Florida for 18 years before moving to Chicago, but I loved the winters. Yeah, the cold sucks, but there's something really invigorating about it, too. And it makes the spring and summer so much better. I got so bored living somewhere where it was just hot all the time.

(David, I would love to get back to Minneapolis sometime, especially for the state fair.)

My blood has already thinned out since being down here. I think I'd do even worse in the cold now than I did for the 37 years I lived in Chicago! I'm hoping to get back for a visit this summer, and to visit downtown. I haven't been downtown in ages!

I remember the Soundstage thing. I joined Nancy's board shortly before that, and didn't find out about Soundstage until the tickets were all gone. I did catch FM at Allstate Arena a couple days earlier, though. Tenth row seats. Unfortunately, my 5'1" self was right behind someone that had to be at least 6'5"! So I was having a lot of trouble seeing the stage.

On a side note, Soundstage's studios are at my alma mater, Northeastern Illinois University. And my last apartment in the city was only a few miles away.

I agree that the cold winters make you appreciate the spring and summer much more! But I was still quite happy to be in a warm climate this past winter. Now that I live some place warm, though, I dread the summers like I dreaded the winters up north. It gets HOT down here! And I have a feeling this summer's going to be a bad one. We've already had a handful of 100+ degree days over the past month!

I am not a cold weather person either. I've lived in Texas most of my life and well, in most parts of this state it's pretty warm year 'round. West Texas and the Panhandle get some fierce winter weather but central and south Texas rarely see much cold weather. I like to call Austin "Little Calcutta" because it's so damn hot and humid here in the summertime it's almost unbearable. But really, I've gotta have the sun, I could not live in a place that doesn't see much sunshine.
