I love that one too. Rosebud, Midnight Special, and Live 80 are up there as well.

I love all of the performances of Rhiannon up until about '79. I still loved the song, but they just weren't up to par with years before. My favorite is the Midnight Special though.

Rosebud is definately my favorite. Silver springs is the reason I fell in love with stevie nicks. But perfomances like rosebud and midnight special are the reasons I STAYED a fan of stevie. Everything about rosebud is wonderful. She's gorgeous, I love her voice and how she lets loose at the end. Absolutely fascinating!! If I could have one moment in time where I could sing and perform, I would want it to go JUST like that. Well..maybe if I had some HOTT exboyfriend that I wanted to "follow down till the sound of my voice will haunt him" I may pick silver springs from the dance

but I've never heard the live '80 or whatever. Would someone mind sending it to me?

You don't have "Fleetwood Mac Live"? It's on "Fleetwood Mac Live" -- the live album they released in 1980. The "Rhiannon" on it is actually from 1977, however. You could probably find it by searching alltheweb.com for the audio file, or logging on to your favorite P2P network.

My favorite Rhiannon is ... I don't know. I always loved the 12.04.77, the 10.19.82 & the 10.02.83. The Rosebud promo film (it's not really a documentary) Rhiannon is dark & grainy & the sound isn't very clear. The Midnight Special Rhiannon is a lot better in terms of technical quality. Midnight Special should really be on DVD by now; there's no excuse not to release all those mid-70s performances by all those bands. No, instead the owners are going to keep all that film locked up until the stock crumbles or the nitrate turns into vodka. I was glad to see VH1 broadcast some of it five years ago, but that seems to have been a one-time thing.

I also prefer the Live album version. I also love her Rhiannon "In Concert" solo video performance. That one is also great.

Among all the versions of Rhiannon I've heard through the years, I'd have to say the one from the 1980 live album is my absolute favorite. It's almost gothic. I used to sing with a guitar player (we were trying to start a band but it never went anywhere) and I talked him into learning Rhiannon from that CD, which he would play on acoustic guitar. And when we got to the instrumental break before the "dreams unwind, love's a state of mind" part I would sing a few lines from Maker of Birds...

When at first he saw her
It seemed she had no name
She sat alone and it seemed to him
that her face and the light were the same
Her hair shone streams of blonde and gold
He thought maybe I'm going insane
Her gown was no more than the water could cover
This time would not come again
Dreams unwind, loves a state of mind...
Well you know that your dreams unwind
And love is what you find....
Take me like the wind, child, take me to the sky

It workes really well.

Which one is it where she says "This is a song about a Welsh Witch"? That's my favorite version. Isn't that the one where she really goes all out with the "Silly dreamer" thing?

The Live 1980 version (and any version performed after 1977) pales to the one at the GW Forum on August 28, 1977. Best "Rhiannon" ever performed.

2nd place: Thanksgiving Night, 1975 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.

3rd place: March 10, 1977, San Diego Sports Arena.

This thread has brought me out of my starting-grad-school haze!
I vote for the East Rutherford '87 version... with the famous "Nothing ever changes" chant. So haunting.

That is about every version from 1975-1979.

Well darn. Okay, she says it like this; "This is a song....about a Welsh. Witch." Does that help? :P

Not really...but, I think what you might be referring to is the one on the bootleg that was recorded in New Haven, CT on 11/20/75...which has been released under the following names (as well as others):

Albatross, But Not Around My Neck Please
Live In Passaic 1975
King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents
Live In New Haven 1975

The song list of that/those bootlegs is:

Station Man
Spare Me A Little
Rhiannon
Landslide
I'm So Afraid
World Turning
Don't Let Me Down Again
Hypnotized
