My nephew started the first grade yesterday -and had a great day! Many of his little friends from Kindergarten are in his class - so he's happy about that.

But then on wednesday's he goes to an after school recreation program because his school gets out early on Wednesdays He HATED that - my sister went to pick him up and said she looked around and then spotted him sitting alone at a table..looking all sad.

He saw my sister - ran to her - threw his arms around her and burst into tears He hasn't acted like that since he was itty bitty. Poor guy - apparently not a fan of the after-school program Luckily it's only one day a week.

Well, bless his little heart. He will make friends there. And he will eventually enjoy it more. It'll get to the point where he gets mad when mom comes to pick him up!

Aww... I'm just getting to this thread now. But bless YOUR heart. I don't think you're being over-the-top at all. And I'm not surprised Sara had a good first day - any little girl that is that loved and adored by her mum (and I know she knows she is) will do fine. All your love is making her a happy, secure, and friendly little thing. Congratulations.

PS She's really cute!

Aw, poor little guy. Did he not know anyone there? Rachel will be going to an after care program 2 days a week, but she'll be with 3 of the neighborhood kids, so I'm not really worried about that.

Well I just got an update...he did have one friend there, Zane - he was in kindergarten with him. Well at the after-school program my nephew would go sit by Zane and Zane would just keep moving - so my nephew got very sad and rejected and just went off on his own.

My sister then suggested he ask Zane why he was doing that and Zane's reply? "I Just have better friends than you" Ah the trauma of being a kid. My nephew was so upset and didn't understand why Zane would say that poor kid - but hey I'm sure it's not the worse thing that'll happen to him in school - kids are so mean

That really sucks. Kids can be so mean. I'm sure your nephew will have new friends in no time. I get upset when kids exclude other kids. My one neighbor's daughter is 5 and is either VERY immature for her age or has something else going on (ADHD?) and a lot of kids don't like to play with her because she's disruptive. She screams for no reason, doesn't follow rules of games, hits, and is often just in her own world. But I still hate to see her excluded, and Rachel has started doing this. We've been friends with this girl's parents for almost 20 years, so to see our kids not be best friends is hard. So if she's out, I watch closely to make sure she's not being excluded.

I hope it gets better for your nephew soon.

Carol

Oh yeah - he'll get over it - he's got a multitude of other friends - I think it was just hard because Zane was the only kid he knew at the program. But he's not even in the same class as him anymore- so I'm sure it'll be no big deal in no time.

I get to see my nephew this weekend (I'm going to NM ) and I'm SOOO excited

OH! Thank you so much! I appreciate your words. I'm glad to know other people think of me like that.

PS... I think she's really cute too!

Kids are mean as hell, aren't they??? I hate to see them be hateful or seeing them being excluded, but they are learning to be great ex-wives and husbands one of these days!

(That's awful-I know, but I see some of these kids and think, "she's going to make a great ex-wife one of these days....")

That's hilarious...

My nephew had this little friend (girl) who was such a little princess - she was already down with manipulation and all that evil girl stuff...she was SUCH a brat.

Anyway - my sister and I would always joke about her making some guy's life miserable one day...she eventually stopped letting my nephew play with her.
