I know some people like those 87-90 shows but I just cringe when I watch or listen to them. "Are we havin' fun yet!?" No, Billy, we're not.

At least then they were a semi functioning band of 40 year olds. Now they're septuagenarians who've got half of the voice and stamina that they had 30 years ago.

https://www.theguardian.com/music/20...enter-last-act

This came up while going over stories on today's news. This proves it was a big fat lie that the Buck Vie record was never intended to a FM album....and that it was supposed to be them going out on top. Oh, and who was that DIDN'T put solo stuff on hold for a couple years??

Fleetwood Mac: new album and tour will be our swansong
Guitarist Lindsey Buckingham says that the band is entering its ‘last act’

Fleetwood Mac may be heading into their final year. According to the band’s guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, the group will cease to operate in 2015 or soon afterwards. He told the American TV channel PBS that the forthcoming Fleetwood Mac album and tour would be their “last act”.

2014 was a big year for Fleetwood Mac: the original keyboardist and songwriter Christine McVie rejoined after quitting the band in 1998. They played a series of acclaimed gigs, and next year bring their On With the Show tour to the UK – including a headline slot at the Isle of Wight festival. There is also the promise of the band’s first album since 2003, which will feature a number of new songs that McVie and Buckingham have worked on together.

“She gave me a bunch of stuff to take home,” said Buckingham. “I worked on it, came back, and she loved it. We went into the studio and came out with the best songs we’ve co-written in years.” He added: “Christine really fills the gap of the polarity that might exist otherwise, and helps things breathe.”

However, Buckingham did admit to being sceptical when he first heard that McVie wanted to return. He said: “My initial reaction was, ‘OK – we have to take this with baby steps.’ The want to return doesn’t mean you can repeat history; it doesn’t mean all the tools, all the reference points are still there for it all to work.”

The current Fleetwood Mac lineup is the same one that oversaw the band’s most successful period, including the trio of classic 1970s albums Fleetwood Mac, Rumours and Tusk, as well as the poppy 1980s hit Tango in the Night.

Buckingham concluded: “We’re going to continue working on the new album, and the solo stuff will take a back seat for a year or two. A beautiful way to wrap up this last act.”

They're already revamping the website-I'm assuming to include the new lineup. When I click on fleetwoodmac.com, there is only a picture of a penguin with no further information. What a shame.

Well, from what I have read - it sounds like Lindsey is just flat out not participating in the tour. I am sure he has his reasons. Perhaps he didn't want to tour without a new album to support it.

I don't find it necessarily flattering that some on this forum are slamming other members of the band for who is at fault.

The truth is, we are not in their inner circle so we do not really know what happened, and we are reacting based out of stipulation and assumptions from (the most part) gossip tabs.

There was no statement made that said Lindsey is out of the band forever or that he was fired.

Think we all need to take it down a few notches.

Lindsey has a solid solo career and he can take this opportunity to bring forth some new music with a tour of his own.

Lindsey was fired - plain and simple.

band statement was interesting - they were going to leave it bland and unclear.
i guess all these upfront leaks claiming he was "thrown out" prompted Rolling Stone and Variety to dig a bit deeper and call it what it was - LB was fired by FM.

I'm too lazy to go back through this thread to see if this was posted already, but here's Finn's statement:

“Two weeks ago I received a wonderful invitation to be a part of a truly great band. A few days later I was standing in a room playing music with Fleetwood Mac. It felt fresh and exciting, so many great songs, a spectacular rhythm section and 2 of the greatest voices ever. Best of all, we sounded good together. It was a natural fit. I can’t wait to play.”

hmmm.... I gotta wonder if all the people saying it's no big deal would feel the same if they went ahead and toured without Stevie and brought in some new chick to sing all her songs.. 'Hey, Stevie won't be making this tour, we wish her all the best, and in the meantime we've brought in Tori Amos and Florence Welch to sing all her songs and twirl and play tambourine for you!'

I think somehow they'd be making verrrrry different comments...

No, from what I've read that really isn't the case. Those people that originally leaked the story out from insider knowledge said he just wanted a delay or the opportunity for a break in the tour and they just said no. They are also adamant he was fired and this is the line all the media outlets are now following.

This is just terrible. It doesn't matter what happened. When there is a conflict, WORK IT OUT. Respect the 40 years that a person has given to that band and the amount of work they've done and how much of their own solo effort they sacrificed for the band and WORK IT OUT. Do whatever it takes to come to a resolution. Don't just FIRE someone. They were almost over anyways! And it's an injustice to the devoted fans.

Unfortunately I'm starting to worry that the Stevie ultimatum "me or him" was true and that's what really led to it. I don't doubt Lindsey caused trouble when he asked for whatever he asked for or disagreed with in regards to the tour, but they should've handled it better.

But would Stevie say that to Bob Dylan?

Fleetwood Mac issued a collective statement about the news, saying: "We are thrilled to welcome the musical talents of the caliber of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family. With Mike and Neil, we’ll be performing all the hits that the fans love, plus we’ll be surprising our audiences with some tracks from our historic catalogue of songs. Fleetwood Mac has always been a creative evolution. We look forward to honoring that spirit on this upcoming tour."

uh......where was the creative EVOLUTION the last several years? Oh, yeah, it was on tour with Chrissie Hynde.

And 'performing all the hits fans love' says golden oldies lounge act... unless he's implying that the hits fans love are mostly Chris/Stevie songs anyway so no biggie to lose a couple songs...... In which case.....cold, man. Cold.

Mick Fleetwood added, "Fleetwood Mac has always been about an amazing collection of songs that are performed with a unique blend of talents ... We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realize that this is the right combination to go forward with in Fleetwood Mac style. We know we have something new, yet it’s got the unmistakable Mac sound."

Golden Oldies Lounge Act.

The 1987 band was palatable for several reasons;
  • Lindsey wanted to leave.
  • They were relatively unknown artists- filling up the band with semi-famous names from other bands is such a lame thing to do.
  • They were still relatively young and had plenty of time to develop in future as proper recording artists.

For some reason bringing people in from other bands just makes me think of a slew of 90's/00's boy bands that fill out their line up with notable members of other bands. Also (for British people), when that bloke from Dollar joined Bucks Fizz.

I'd be ok with that.
I wouldn't go see them, but I'd be ok with them doing it.

Fleetwood Mac boots Lindsey Buckingham before going on tour

Patrick Ryan, USA TODAY
Published 6:49 p.m. ET April 9, 2018 | Updated 7:07 p.m. ET April 9, 2018

Lindsey Buckingham is going his own way.

The guitarist/vocalist will not be touring with Fleetwood Mac on its upcoming world tour, according to a press release sent to USA TODAY by Kristen Foster, a representative for the band.

"Lindsey Buckingham will not be performing with the band on this tour," the statement reads. "The band wishes Lindsey all the best."

No reason was given.

Buckingham, 68, joined the group in 1974 with then-girlfriend Stevie Nicks, and has been its frequent frontman and sometime songwriter for most of the years since. He wrote and sang hits such as Go Your Own Way and Tusk.

He previously left the band from 1987 to 1996, and was inducted with them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

In his place, Neil Finn of Crowded House and Mike Campbell of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers will tour with Fleetwood Mac this fall. They'll be joined by longtime members Nicks, Christine McVie, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood.
