You are wrong, success in this industry is counted by how many CDs an artist sells.....and how many concert tickets an artist sells. It doesn't matter whether you are Miley, the Beebs, MJ, the Dixie Chicks or whoever is on the charts today...what matters is how much airplay your music gets, more airplay means more cd sales, which means more ticket sales. The only stevie airplay I hear is the old stuff....the good stuff.

Right, like Mylie Cyrus. Super talent, right? After all, she sells the sh*t outta cds and concert tickets.

However, mastering IS the FINAL step. It's the icing on the cake. It's basically a process of making the each song on an album sound consistent with one another as far as volume, crispness, and audibility.

Hope that helps.
Thanks for the info! I never quite understood the difference between mixing and mastering.

It looks like Dave is back in LA - - which seems consistent with his and Mick's "two weeks in Nashville" statements.

Guys, I am so incredibly excited about this!

Dave Stewart didn't have anything to do with the lyrics on IYD though? Just thought that was worth mentioning if it's your main gripe with the album. I know what you mean, though. I really love IYD but I admit Stevie somehow seemed like a much more mature songwriter in her 20s than she does today, which is something I do find troubling.

For the record, though, I play more than a bit of IYD for friends and it does seem to go down pretty well. I'd probably skip Soldier's Angel and Cheaper than Free, but otherwise... yeah. It seems to connect to people a lot more consistently than WH or TISL do.

I love IYD from start to finish, with the exception of SA and CTF. But I agree, the lyrics on some of the songs (New Orleans, Italian Summer), are surprisingly literal for Stevie. Which is why I would really love for her to record some of her Bella Donna vault songs.

She's had a fair share of lyrical clunkers post-WH though. I mean, most of the non-vault songwriting that was actually hers on RAL isn't all that great or moving. And I'll never forget that moment where I read an interview clip of her talking about how Long Way to Go is actually about her travelling a long way to see someone, and then they break up with her, but she thought they already did that. I think a lot of her lyrics might benefit from a little mystery.

Oof, I had never heard that about Long Way To Go - pretty amazing. But still, "she stares at the stairs" takes the cake in my book.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that they wrote songs together which Stevie doesnt normally do.
I agree her songs were more mature when she was younger.
My main gripe is the awful lyrics but I do think the whole album is pretty bad, not just lyrics.

Let me add, I would play Bella Donna, Wild Heart, TISL and maybe even Rock A Little to any of my friends.
I would NEVER play them any of the other three.
I remember you could stream the tracks online at Rolling Stone and my friend loved the album listening to it that way and then I got My Heart later with my CD and sent My Heart to him and he absolutely flipped. He said that was the best of all and he didn't understand how it didn't make it onto the album.

When they describe the actual process of the co-writing, though, it's clear the lyrics are hers alone, and he bangs out some music while she recites them in a "sing-songy" style until they come up with a song. That's how they did most of their writing together. Although I need to correct myself a bit as he did come up with the chorus to ELY and CTF. Not exactly lyrical high points, but not the worst of the bunch either. "What's faster than a fast car? A beating heart!" is all her.

Feel free to still think the album is horrible, though. Personally I'm finding it one of the ones I have more success with when trying to demonstrate what all the fuss over SN is about.

Haha! Right? For me it's "Touched By An Angel" when she sings, "...everything was the same except that everything was different."

Cringe.

Right now the order would be

Bella Donna
Wild Heart
TISL
Rock A Little

Sometimes the order might change except Bella Donna is always number one for me. I never skip a track on that record.

Stevie's songs on IYD were 1/2 half for me
Cheaper Than Free?
come on, that's just sloppy.
My Heart was ruined
i want to say Annabel Lee was too ... just coz I'm partial to the other versions we prob shouldn't have listened to
IYD/Soldiers Angel/Moonlight are perfection

Empire of the Sun are pretty popular over here. Their first CD was very FM-esque musically. But I'd rather her work with Dave Grohl or anyone over Stewart tbh. I like that he has inspired her. but i don't think he is the best for her
