I always thought in the video that Waddy's guitar solo was so loud in the mix and kind of dry that it stuck out a bit much, and it's mixed in rather nicely on the CD...
I ripped my copy of the laserdisc and used the Chris Lord-Alge remix from Enchanted. Enjoy!

edit: OK, just noticed Youtube is squeezing the video unless you make it full screen. Wierd!

Apologies to those who are praising and loving this song, but I have always disliked it. Honky tonk and amateurish and grating. Absolutely no allure or mystique or any of the attractive Stevie-song qualities. Sorry.

"Because I never did run from you, I never did not love you, in a dream I said to you I'd always love you." I love this song because of the HBO 1981 video and how energized she was before the Klonopin years. Vapid lyrics?

I agree, I like this song, very good. I also like the fact that it was never on an album, weird, huh?

I remember reading discussions about this song on The Ledge years ago before the song was actually released on Stevie's Enchanted Boxed Set. Some felt the song was called "Golden Braid" rather than "Gold & Braid." There are still some summary comments about the song:

Thank you thank you thank you for this! This (without the squishing, of course) is what the whole thing would look like if they remastered it for DVD and remixed the whole concert. And watching it again after many years I never noticed the little Irish jig she does at the end. Priceless.

You know, since you've already ripped the entire lazerdisc, if you were to make it into an avi file (or some video file) and post it here for the fans to download you'd be a hero. I'd love to get ahold of it to burn into a DVD for my own private viewing, as I no longer have a VCR and my copy of the tape just sits in a box in my cupboard.

Her joke about "War of the Worlds" in the demo is because the guy recording the session (or maybe it was one of the musicians) was named Orson and she was making a joke about Orson Wells' famous radio show of War of the Worlds. Not quite as non sequitur as most people think. Can anyone back me up on this? I can't remember his full name.

In addition to the recordings that were posted in this thread there are a bunch of acapella tracks floating around. I don't know if they were created by pulling the vocals off of the demos or they were taken off the master tapes like that but I have them. I can upload them when I get home if you guys want them.

I always thought the demo with strange echo was fan made because it seems to be two separate takes layered together. Perhaps it's one fully recorded demo with one of the acapella takes layered on top of it. I like it a lot because it gives the whole thing a very full rich sound. But I don't think she ever recorded a demo that started off with her singing acapella. I think that was just something whomever made the mix did for fun. It would be interesting if this is true for the person who made it to come clean so we could know for sure.

I love to sing and always sing along with songs in my car. I love the ending to the live version of Gold & Braid so much that I've tacked it onto other songs. Most often the song Breathe by Frou Frou, especially one of the remixes because it's faster and carries the music from the final chorus longer. I just started singing it one day and it fit, so I always add it when I sing that song now.

Here is a very clean studio version that I am in love with:

What part is that?
