I can't believe that we're FINALLY having a country music discussion on the Ledge. Not "edge walks", or Steve E. "farting rainbows or unicorns".

And I can't wait for the original album series!!!
I noticed the time too. Our brains are some how connected...scary!
Edge walks and rainbows, that's funny.

And yes, you must listen to Dwight. A few suggestions:

dwightyoakamacoustic.net - My favorite of all his CD's.
Just him and guitar doing all his greatest.

And along with the new 3 Pears release, a 5 CD set is due
9/11/12 ~ Original Album Series (less than $25.00).

Forgot to mention that 3 Pears is coming out on vinyl too!!!

The 3 former, are all dead. Dwight is the real deal, right here and now. Steve Earle hasn't been TRUE country for 20 years. He(like John Mellendouche) decided that he was the new Blob Dylan....just an amalgam of americana crapola....some good, some.....not so much! Moody, self serving doucheiness! Steve is batsh*t crazy, too.

Garth flying by a harness over an arena....made me know that he's not country, but simply a sales whore(although I do like his voice). Clint's voice has always worked my last nerve. Too whiny, and I don't mean GOOD country twang.

(I'm having a mood tonight, pardon my bi*chiness!)
I should have added Buck Owens and Hank Sr. The list was typed in a couple of minutes as names just popped into my head, gimme a break and yeah, I'll check out more of Dwight's stuff.

I agree with you on Steve Earle's most recent stuff. My favourite albums from him are his first six. They're all great but from then on it got a bit messy. Still some great stuff but all a bit random and yes, moody and self-serving.

Of course Garth isn't country. He's country pop (and bad country pop at that) in the extreme. That's why I only listen to a couple of his songs. I avoided him completely for years because he just p***ed me off but damnit, a couple of them wormed their way into my collection.

As for Clint Black I don;t know much but the few songs I do know I like. The rest of his stuff may suck though, who knows? Hey, it could be worse - I could have listed Alan Jackson or Toby Keith!

Glad to see some love for the Dixie Chicks! Say what you want about everything else that swirled around them a while ago, they can play and whoa... Natalie can sing! All their albums are great and they're top of my list of bands I still need to see live. Loved them for years.

I meant to add Sara Evans (despite her most recent, terrible album), Allison Moorer and Shelby Lynne to my list too... and of course Ryan Adams! How could I have forgotten him? He's brilliant, although needs some reining in with his constant releasing anything sometimes. I've also been listening to Ryan Bingham a bit recently.

HAHA, and I'm not even a pot smoker(it was offered to me this afternoon, and I declined, as usual)! Ever have weird numbers in your life? By total coincidence, I seem to always glance at the clock, every afternoon, at exactly 4:20. I mean, it's STRANGE, because I'm not thinking about it! I'll randomly look, and there it is, 4:20.

My other weird number is 124. My street address used to be 124. Then, when my dog was still alive, I used to stay at a pet friendly hotel in TN, pretty regularly. About 75% of the time, they would keep giving me room #124. I once asked if that was a "pet room" or something, because "you always place me in the same room!", and was informed that "they're all pet rooms"(the place had about 200 rooms). But I was placed into room 124, about 12-15 times.

^that number crap makes me sound like a loon! I don't know why I rambled about it. Probably because I'm sleepy!

Dwight IS homage to the Bakersfield sound, which was in direct defiance to Nashville's 1960 "orchestral sounds". Hard, straight country. The way the good lard intended!

At this moment of thought....Dwight, and The Chicks, are really the only current artists(with hits) that I consider to be truly country(and yeah, most of their hits are from several years back). I mean, I love Dierks, but he ain't country!

Alan Jackson is okay, his music anyway. He's not much of a singer, though. He's Bob Welch, talking his way through songs. I'm a melody ADDICT. Sing to me, don't talk to me.

I've never seen the Chicks either. I'd love to. I don't think Natalie has much interest in "conquering the world" anymore. Meaning smaller tours...

I'm knocking back a glass of Merlot right now. Heading to bed SHORTLY, since it's 4:53AM, here!!!(I worked doing lighting tonight, and I hadn't worked for a couple of weeks, so I'm WIRED right now).

I've come to accept my loneliness, only in the past couple of weeks. I mean, f*ck it, I'm tired of trying, tired of looking, tired of wanting.

Hear hear!! That's why I don't llike Alan Jackson. His voice, well, he kind of doesn't have one...

As for the Chicks, did you ever listen to the Court Yard Hounds album that Emily and Martie did without Natalie? I like it, nice mellow almost alt-country. It has Jakob Dylan on it. I don't think Natalie's doing much at all now but I;d love to see them do a smaller tour. I;d definitely see them if at all possible. I doubt they'll tour outside Europe again though. Oh well, Nashville it is! I can plan my trip when dates are announced, whwnever that may be!

but isn't that when "they", the all-knowing "them" say that you find it? Who knows...

Dude you are freaking me out. That numbers thing happens
to me all the time. Mine aren't specific to a same time. They
come more in sequences like

1:11
2:22
10:10
12:12

Like that and so on. I always wonder does it have a meaning
somehow?

Dodfather,
You mentioned SHELBY!

He doesn't! He has a rich sounding baritone voice, but apparently can't sing. Stop talking AT me, Alan(wow, that was awkward! lol)! I mean Jackson, of course!

NO. I always wanted Courtyard Hounds, but just never came across a copy.

I think the last interview I saw, Natalie isn't interested in touring extensively now. So their hands are tied. As much as I love Emily and Martie, Natalie IS the DC's. Couldn't be replaced. Not that short little fat one!(isn't that what Jay Leno once called her?)

THIS is like the best Ledge discussion I've had on here,...in a WHILE!

I feel like I'm some number freak! FWIW, I AM terrible at remembering names, and I can remember a number like nobody's bidness! But those are my only CONSTANTLY recurring numbers. 420, and 124. Every time it happens, I'm like, "whoa sh*t, there that is again!" lol 420 has only been happening for a few years, but 124 has been happening for 20. All.the.f*cking.time. Maybe I'll die at 1:24?

I sure did! I love Shelby! Even the Love, Shelby album that got such mixed reviews. Yes, it's more polished pop than her more country/americana records, but it's got Killin Kind on it! I've been a fan for years, including her earlier post I Am stuff, like Soft Talk etc. The early stuff isn't the best but it's pretty good. I'm only just getting into Revelation Road now.

Yeah I read that about Natalie too. Fair enough I suppose, she did it for a long time and I think all the s**t from a few years ago maybe soured her on large scale touring. Can't say I blame her. I'd highly recommend the film, Shut Up and Sing, from that time.

The Court Yard Hounds album is well worth picking up. It's a little different though, more mellow.

Dodfather, you MUST listen to more Dwight. As Homie said, he is the real deal. My favorite albums of his are This Time and Buenos Noches From a Lonely Room. He is super talented.

Since we're talking favorite country artists, here are a few of mine (besides Dwight):

Hank Williams, Sr.
Johnny Cash
Allison Krauss
Dolly Parton
Loretta Lynn
Marty Robbins
Buck Owens
Alabama
Trisha Yearwood (I think she has a beautiful voice.)
The Dixie Chicks
Emmylou Harris
Keith Whitley
Hal Ketchum
Patsy Cline
