is coming from dead center. And no, there's no center channel
speaker. I'm talking stereo 2.0. There's magic in that music
you listen to, if you give it a chance.
I am 38 - so under the age of forty. As a teen, I used to spend hours laying on the floor with a speaker on either side of my head, listening to Rock A Little, Tango in The Night...or Madonna.

I grew up in a household with a nice stereo, and it played all the time. As such, I've grown into an adult that believes a nice stereo is far more important than having a TV.

I prefer the sound of vinyl over CD any day of the week, and you are absolutely right about sound quality of MP3s. When I put a CD or record in my stereo, and play it through my 4-foot tall floor speakers, the sound is incredible, real, lush, vibrant and most of all FULL. On the contrary, if I hook up the iPod to the stereo and play the songs I've purchased in digital format, the sound is tinny and metallic, missing depth and space, the low ends of the songs are muffled and the high ends are clipped off. If the volume is increased, the quality degrades even further because these flaws are amplified. You can't typically hear these differences in the car, but on a high-end stereo with good speakers it's not only obvious, it's actually disappointing.

My stereo is my number one high.

Hahaha. This thread is making feel old.Maybe it's time to cart out the reel to reel recorder.

Good statement Karma. Mp3 is about the same is FM radio or less.Listening to a mp3 is more noticeable on a hi quality stereo then a cheap boom box or walkman. You can really hear the artifacts of the swish swashing sound on a good sound system .Heres some info from Wikipedia about MP3's

Strange, I always think my digital stuff sounds so good.

'those of under 38...'
The OP of that can suck it.

We share the same philosophies on stereos. I have an old vintage receiver and a speaker set, and haven't had cable for years.
And I'm 23.

Yes but its a huge difference in scale. Making cds for my friends meant maybe a dozen people didn't buy the album. Putting an mp3 out on some website means thousands of people that I don't even know don't buy the album. Multiply that out and its easy to see why Internet piracy has crashed album sales.

I'm not in favor of the over-the-top prosecutions of the RIAA or with record company greed. Artists though need to be able to make a living on their music, otherwise they can't really do it.

Well I'm just going to turn this thread on its head and say that I'm 29, love cds and still buy them. You can get great deals now! I also love vinyl and yes, it so often sounds markedly better. Nothing I like more than raking around old record stores!

Copying records for friends been going on probably since I can remember.Way before the internet .I have to admit I've done it too.I can see Stevie has been shaky about the internet piracy.I can't blame her.
I agree about these greedy record labels and other related organizations should stop their greed factor and spead their wealth out to the poor workers and artists that produce these recordings.

Al, that's nice of you to be concerned with lawn maintenance. I prefer a wooden rake over a metal one because of the scraping sound it makes when it hits the pavement.

I'm 29 as well & also buy my music exclusively on CDs. I've lost far too many electronic files over the years to dead computers & lost mp3 players to buy music via downloading. More than anything, I like buying a physical product so I can have it as a backup.

I am actually down to listening to all my music in mp3 format, though... the convenience of today's tiny iPods can't be beat. I can clip my iPod to my belt buckle in the morning, plug it up to my soundbar on my work computer, and when I get home can do the same with my home theater system. Since I have only a motorcycle for transportation these days, hauling around my giant CD book was no longer an option, & pointing & clicking with iTunes on my laptop is far easier than shuffling around for CDs.

I like Cd's .Like I said before.I rather have those 12" black frisbee's along with the 7" little brother along with the snap ,crackle and pop. Atlease they fly better then cd's.

Digital downloads. They are for the birds. No problem with Flac or Wave. MP3's NO....

I remember back when I got my first mp3 play.It was a Diamond Rio 300 with a whopping 32mb internal memory plus a external card of 32mb.Hahahahaha.LOL.that was 1999.Payed about $150 for it.Wow MP3's.I love mp3's. No more carting cd's and cassettes in the car.I can leave the walkman home.take the mp3 player anywhere. No skipping anymore.I love it.It still plays today.but the display is blurry. And of course those P to P sharing sites showed up.We know what happen there.

Me too - which is why I buy my favorites on CD or vinyl.

I've never lost a digital file, in almost a decade of buying them... *crosses fingers*
