Question 8- what Stevie lyrics on my tombstone?

Truly, there is no room for lyrics given the costs of tombstones, by the time you are done with the name and years, you're about done! HOWEVER, it would be cool to have "Touched By An Angel" played at the funeral: (italics = my most favorite lines)

And when she walked in the room
After so many years,
He looked up and saw her
He was standing at the crossroads
She was moving in slow motion
Everything was the same,
Except that everything was different

In that very moment, everyone was silent
And everyone was friendly,
For the first time in years,
Everyone was smiling
Though their pain was apparent
and the floor was wet and slippery
With the tracks of their tears

And then I see someone standing
At the side of the stage
Not standing in the shadows
I see her face
Glowing in the darkness
In her own angel way
"I have come to make you better,
I have come to take you away."

No one slipped and fell
This time, everyone was steady
Someone held my arm so that
I would not fall
For the first time, in a long time
Everyone was ready
No one said a word
And that simply said it all

And then I see someone standing
At the side of the stage
Not standing in the shadows
I see her face
Glowing in the darkness
In her own angel way
"I have come to make you better,
I have come...to take you away."
I’ll make you better

Walking through the room together
In suspended animation...
No one saw us go... no one said goodbye
But in my heart, I leave
Great expectations
That you will find the answers
to your questions
And that life will once more...
be a celebration...

and that you will be touched by an Angel
and that you will be touched by an Angel
and that you will be touched by an Angel

Celebration
Someday
Someday, Someday
Celebration

To me this is one of Stevie's greatest songs, and yet most people have never heard of it (outside of this website).

Well, I figure if I can't be grandiose on my own gravestone, then I can't do it anywhere. So I'd have:

Once in a million years a lady like her rises.

Even though I would guess that Stevie knows of this song. I love Susan's version of this song, especially with the segue of Sugaree thrown in.

When Stevie was promoting Soundstage, she kept saying in interviews that she'd like to do a righteous political album. So I really considered giving her three albums that I thought might inspire her, when she did the B&N signing. I didn't end up doing so. I still regret it.

So I am going to cheat and pick one song from each album:

"Wasteland of the Free" from The Way I Should by Iris Dement

"More than a Dream" from Yes by Pet Shop Boys

"Black Cloud" (which Fleetwood Mac should cover) from Years of Refusal by Morrissey

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

Question #9: I would probably introduce Stevie to "Mykonos" by the Fleet Foxes. I think she would totally dig the harmonies of the band and the soft sound yet meaningful lyrics that they have. Hopefully it would give her a new band to listen to too.

Tombstone:

So I close my eyes softly, 'til I become that part of the wind that we all long for sometime. And to those that I love, like a ghost through a fog, like a charmed hour
and a haunted song.

Actually, I did quote FM in my dad's funeral program. Which was silly, because he was not at all that kind of fanciful person and never would have understood, much less chosen, anything like that himself. But I did it for me and if I had died, I'm sure he would have orchestrated things to his liking. I quoted Angel, Temporary One and Say We'll Meet Again in the program, together with pictures of my dad.

For my brother's tombstone, we did use a Prince reference: "sometimes it snows in April."

9 Try by Nelly Furtado. I have always loved this song from her totally underrated second album Folklore. I think Stevie could de a really nice cover in concert.

I also think she could do a fantastic version of Wichita Lineman by Glen Campbell.

I would show her one of my own songs, because she's probably my biggest musical inspiration.

However otherwise, Hanson - A Song To Sing

When I saw your post that was it.....couldn't think of anyone else. I became a fan of hers this summer after hearing them do an interview on, The River out of Raleigh, NC!

The entire Sam's Town album by The Killers. I think it's a perfect "themed" record and hopefully she could get some inspiration to complete her own Rhiannon album...

That and I just love that band in general.
