Yeah they rock it out. I listened to another song of theirs on YouTube... it was interesting. But Metal just isn't usually my "thing" so I don't know that I'll buy the whole album. I DID buy this Chain cover.

I should start a 2010 thread but the 2009 thread wasn't much of a success despite my efforts lol
Anyway, here's a Japanese punk band called Razors Edge doing a pretty awesome cover of Go Your Own Way (the ending!) http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/son...fe/id360471008

It's kind of funny to hear a heavy metal version of this song. Surprisingly, they stayed pretty much true to the original arrangement. But I laughed listening to it. It's another example of how Fleetwood Mac has been a multi-generation influence to a very diverse range of artists!

They don't sound heavy metal to me.

Yeah me either, it just sounds like modern rock. Kind of Three Days Grace-ish.

Definitely not heavy metal. Reminds me a lot of Nickelback, actually. The Mirage concert version of The Chain rocks just as hard in it's own way
. I always enjoy hearing Mac covers, but this one comes across as a bit unimaginative, and even amateurish. There are certainly aspects of it I like... but I felt they could have done so much more with this song. It just seems like certain aspects of this cover are carbon copies of the original... and the parts that aren't are simply substituted with screaming vocals and dumbed down thrashed guitar noises (the chorus is my main beef). I don't know, the whole thing seems like it was rushed through production without much thought put into it. I still enjoyed hearing it, nonetheless! |

I am not a fan of heavy metal and I loved this version. I also thought -the Come to Me, whisper was odd if not eerie. I thought it was neat that they had similar background singing when the lead was saying - you would never break the chain.
What was really different is the end - Chain keeps us together. I had always heard it as Chain, keep us together when FM sings it. But maybe I'm wrong. |

That wasn't bad. I think it had the potential to actually be pretty good, but the mix is off to me - I can hear some pretty decent double-bass kicks at the end, for example, but they are too low in the mix, so you can't hear them very well.
Like others have said, though, I would not call Taking Dawn "heavy metal." Other songs on their album have a really distinct 80s cock rock vibe about them, but even so, I'd just label them as your average, run-of-the-mill modern rock band.

I'll admit that I love metal (I listen to stuff ranging from your classic heavy metal like Judas Priest to super-hard stuff like Sepultura), but, like others said, that wasn't quite metal. That aside, that cover rocks! Alas, I still like the original best

Does anyone remember Tantric's cover of "The Chain" from about 6 years ago? I quite liked that, though I was a fan of the band at the time and through that album. Last edited by MikeVielhaber; 05-12-2010 at 05:23 PM.. |
