I almost always was the one who got dumped. I would be unhappy and want to leave. A few times even would have a talk with them about it and think we;d end things. they'd not want to. then a little while after, they'd cheat on me and dump me. i'd get furious. i never cheated on them. i tried my best to be there for them and make it work since they said they wanted us togehter. so, even if you are not happy and want it over, it still can hurt. (especially when you had very nice guys ask you out while your boyfriend was out of town and you would say no, and stay loyal, but they would not be). eventually you learn, but there is a lot of pain and saddness built up by then.
