I'm Almost heartbroken sp please help me..
So, I've told you guys this. But I have to know what to do. And I have to get the words from you, because it was you I got to know 3 years ago when I came here. This gonna be a long explanation.
Most of you know, that I was the biggest Stevie fans in Sweden and that I was obsessed with her...now everything has changed when you come to that part. Stevie has, in some way and I really don't know why, disappeared from my life. It was some months ago, maybe a half year ago. I just stopped listen to her music. And I started to listen to other music. And now, I never listen to her or The Mac. Which, what I think, is really strange when you think of how obsessed I was a half year ago. When Stevie held my hand at the Stockholm concert with The Mac in October... And now, at this moment, I cry like someone had died...I cry like I haven't cried in years. My mascara is all over the face, and I cry just because of this. I want it all to be like before, like last year. I want it all back in my life again. I want to take part of all the threads here and talk about her "This is not a tour tour"...but I don't. I'm not here at The Ledge anymore. I'm still a member, but I'm not spending time here like I always did. I listen to a song I wrote to Stevie in 2007, called Silver Angel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZHgXZTqwl4 I remember how I felt when I sat in my room, a 14 almost 15 years old little girl, with only one thing in her mind. Stevie Nicks. The one who always made me happy when I was sad, the one who I dreamd of every night, the one that I wanted to hold my hand with, the one I then held my hand with and I was so happy that night. October 10th 2009. The REAL Stevie Nicks had touch my hand and soul, finally. But now...I never think of it that much. Well, of course sometimes, and very much right now. I miss you Stevie, and I miss you all Ledgies. So now I wonder, has something like this happened to you too???? And have you returned to be a Stevie fan again after you've felt like this? It seems like even if I start to listen to Stevie that much again, It'll never be like before. I just don't think so, though I really really want. Maybe when her new album is released I will return to the one I was. I hope so. I really do, because I miss you <3 |
Hey.. I dont' think we've ever spoken before, but I just wanted to say.. don't worry so much about it :) You say that Stevie was the one who made you happy when you were sad, when you were younger.. Well, maybe she's done her job now and you have grown up over the past few years and learned to be stronger on your own. It doesn't mean that her music means any less to you, but sometimes when you love a band or musician and listen to them so much you need to take a break from them. Thats all it is, I'm sure. It's happened to me before, not with the Mac as I'm relatively new to their music, but with other bands I love. I always come back to them in the end when I'm ready. And when Stevie's new album comes out, I'm sure you'll come back round to listening to her again :)

Hey no worries! Glad to help a fellow Eurofan ;)
Yeah I'm quite new I guess, although I don't post too much, I just tend to read and lurk! Always liked the Mac but never really discovered them or Stevie's solo work until just over a year ago. But yeah, you shouldn't worry. It's great that Stevie has had such an influence on you, and she obviously means a lot to you so that's never gonna go away. |
I'm sure things will get better. Its ok to like other artists and other things besides Stevie & Mac. Theres nothing wrong with it. I don't look at you any different. I think most of us long time fans have gone through the same phases were someone's music touches us so deeply.....not that I mean to speak for others here but I have a feeling most of us have gone through the same pains so to speak. I've had my ups & downs of love for Stevie & Mac music over the 20+ yrs I've been a fan. I go through times when I haven't listend to anything Mac or Stevie or other artists that I like but I know in time I'll listen again its when the mood hits me.......so its ok.....life does go on and its all good......so enjoy some down time and you'll be refreshed again.......I'm sure of it........:D

Hey, it's okay! I became a fan when I was 12 years old, I'm 26 now. When I first became a fan I was completely obsessed, over the years my level of interest in Stevie/FM has changed frequently. Sometimes I listen to them a lot, other times I'll go months without hearing a single song. For me, it always comes back. It's great to explore other interests and other music too though! And Stevie will always be there for you when you want/need her back in your life.

Dont worry I go through my Stevie phases as well. Usually when a new cd is out or she is touring I am so into her and then when she takes a break for a bit, I do as well. I like alot of other music so there will be times when I dont listen to Stevie for a while and then one day a Stevie or FM song will come on the radio and it all comes back to me. One thing I have realized is not to force it.
I am really into Heart at the moment but I still come to the ledge everyday and check the board mostly because I like to read what people have to say and out of boredom. lol! I know once Stevie finally puts out her new cd that I will be obsessed with her music all over again -ha!! |
I know how you feel. Yes, I still have Stevie pictures and posters that occasionally fall on my head while I'm sleeping plastered on my walls, and when her songs come up on shuffle I still listen to them... but right now listening to Stevie is kind of like hanging out my oldest, closest best friend that I don't chill with very often anymore, she's not quite the exciting new friend that I want to be with all the time and get to know. But I'm 100% sure that when her new album drops, I'll jump right back into my obsession! Except now, I don't really have the time to be obsessed and on the Ledge every waking moment. I go back to school soon, I have my own horse now, and I just have more responsiblities than I did when I joined this website at 14. I wish I could go back to those times when everything was so bright, new, exciting and care free! But I'm pretty happy with where I stand now. :) (Hopefully this makes sense to someone!)

Love is like a river...
You may not ever feel again the way you felt when you first "fell in love" with Stevie Nicks. "Love" is like that. I think you recognize that you probably won't ever "outgrow" Stevie, but you will always remember how it felt in the beginning and those are good memories to have. It's the Stevie Spell. I've been a true fan for over 10 years, the first 5 were fanatical. I think I overdosed on Stevie and went through the same kind of thing you are going through. I had to get away. I felt bad about all the money I spent on everything Stevie and Mac related because there was so much of it. So I went away for a little while to remember how to feel. It will never be like the first, because you can never go back, only forward. So now what I do is just keep up with what she's doing, maybe I go to a show if I can or want to, I still buy the official releases. All the memorabilia I collected like a rabid hound is tucked safely away in the closet. I still check the Ledge and post once in awhile. Sometimes I listen to a favorite Stevie CD, like Disk 3 from the Enchanted box set. It's all good. You're normal. Many of us have been where you are. I'm rambling, but I hope I've helped in some small way. |
As someone who has been there, I know the feeling. It's all about being young! I could only imagine what it would have been like if I had access to the internet back in the Stone Age when I was in my early teens. Right around that time FM music was relentless - Tusk, Live, Bella Donna, Mirage, Law and Order, Wild Heart, Christine McVie, etc., and I was beyond obsessed; they were like everything to me at the time, and so much good music was coming out continuously. But of course, time marches on, life gets more complicated and you evolve as a person. Accordingly your musical tastes evolve. But as long as you live, you'll never quite get over that initial feeling. Even if you can't feel the heat of the flame, you still have the ashes to savor and remember. I am definitely not in the same headspace today, but I still like to keep tabs on them and follow them on their individual and united paths; every time I see them in concert it feels sort of like a faux-family reunion. I know none of them know me from a hole in the wall, but I still feel like I have to check in on them every once in a while to make sure they're okay. And if the music is good and if they are looking good, then I feel good. We're growing old together and I like that.

Over the years I've had moments where I was really into a certain someone for awhile and people like Madonna, Heart & Stevie are forever!! I always come back to them. I was really into the Spice Girls back in the late 90's. They are not 'Forever'. Just like Christina, Britney...I've had small moments I was into them but like Heart, Madonna & Stevie they are not forever. I bet you will find this with Stevie, you'll come back around.:)

Well, for me I must say I've really been in love with Stevie since I was 8, and now I am 21, so thirteen years. Over the years, my love for her has fluctuated, but never gone away. I think part of my reason tho is that she has been in my life since I was born, and a huge part of my life for most of it. However, I kinda know how you feel. When I was 15, I discovered the band My Chemical Romance. And I loved them. Looooved them. I was completely obsessed. I spent the next two years that way. And then, one day, I just got over them. I pretty much stopped listening to them. I didn't even buy their black parade album when it came out. But then, last year, I got in the mood to listen to them again and I went out and bought that album and fell in love with them all over again. I think when you find a new band and everything is awesome and your obsession grows, you get burnt out after a while. And I know here recently I haven't been on The Ledge quite as often because it seems there isn't much news other than the updates about the new album. But I don't think you've lost your love for Stevie. I think you will find it again. And a lot of people say you can never return to the way it was when you first discovered her. I disagree. You have only been a fan for 3 years. You may not have seen her solo yet. And you haven't seen her release new music. There is a whole wave of new Stevieness coming right at you in the future and it may be more amazing then the first one. Enjoy your other music, but believe me, there will be some idle Tuesday when one of her songs comes on your iPod and you're right back to where you were three years ago :)

Well, I am a fan, mostly of Stevie in Fleetwood Mac since 1979. Over the years, my point of view towards her has changed a great deal. I went throught the 80s and early 90s with her and she lost me sometimes. I'm in Germany, media information about her or FM is rare and late usually, before the internet it was all second or third hand information, it was like "catch a ghost through the fog" ;). Difficult years for her and strange years for her fans. When I watch old "Rhiannon" live versions, for me, she looks like a kid now, when I see pictures of the RAL period, I cannot believe how bad she was looking and noone back then seemed to realize there was a problem. The Klonopin years - I still feel sad and angry about all the great music that was wasted then because she couldn't be bothered to write it. And then in the late 90s, my girl came back from the wastelands, gloriously matured and more youthful than before, now with a spark in the eye, having fun and no longer suffering.
Nowadays I cannot stand her in her most dramatic moments, often roll my eyes when she gets all negative AGAIN after a tour or an album that she earlier praised, or AGAIN bites the hand that feeds her, but that is because I know her (public) persona like I know members of my family, you know you love them, but sometimes their antics are a bit too much. But there are also stil moments when I am silent, watching and listening in awe. Her voice, her intensity, the little punk attitude (as in "I'm doing my thing here, f**k off haters") and as the best thing since sliced bread, her newfound sense of humour. So, from my experience over 31 years (sh*t, where did they went?), being a fan is subject to change, but it continues. and to add a little Lindsey "it goes in circles". You should see how I roll my eyes at THAT. :) |
"I just stopped listen to her music. And I started to listen to other music. And now, I never listen to her or The Mac."
I'm not sure why this leaves you brokenhearted or sad. This isn't a "faith," it's not a "religion," and it's not a marriage. It's music! I think it's great you listen to other music. And there may come a time when you even take a break from from all music once in a while. Only you know the sound, the voice, the rhythm that you like to listen to-- when working, when driving, when sitting at home alone. It doesn't have to be a single voice. As Shakespeare wrote long ago: (in Twelfth Night If music be the food of love, play on; Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, The appetite may sicken, and so die. That strain again! it had a dying fall: O, it came o'er my ear like the sweet sound, That breathes upon a bank of violets, Stealing and giving odour! Enough; no more: 'Tis not so sweet now as it was before. O spirit of love! how quick and fresh art thou, That, notwithstanding thy capacity Receiveth as the sea, nought enters there, Of what validity and pitch soe'er, But falls into abatement and low price, Even in a minute: so full of shapes is fancy That it alone is high fantastical. Everyone quotes the first line. But you really can overdose! (not sure that Bill was referring to this band) Take the break you need, and be not ashamed. ;) One day you might hear the sound of one of your favorite Mac or Stevie or Lindsey or Green or Welch songs and the memories of what you were doing, what you were listening to will make you smile again. |
