More moaning about Johanna

Oh, here I go again.

You know, I once started a humorous thread just to wag my finger at Johanna, but I wasn't really certain at the time just what I found so objectionable about her artwork. Now I know why.

Her artwork is so forced and pretentious it's unbearable. She can draw Stevie better than just about anyone on the planet, but every portrait she does of Stevie is in exactly the same pose as a famous publicity still. If you don't believe me, just look at her gallery - she doesn't even try to draw Stevie from a different perspective. They all look so cold and rigid. She also tries to add as many accoutrements to her portraits as humanly possible. Wolves, eagles, crosses, crescent moons, stars, crosses with moons dangling from them, dolphins, for god sakes! No subtlety or tact whatsoever.

Oh, and those portraits she used to do with fans were unintentionally funny as well. She'd just take a portrait of Stevie and plop it next to a portrait of the "fan," who'd usually pay about $200 for the treatment. Stevie would be staring off into space being a sexy pouty princess, and the fan would be standing next to her, looking in another direction, oblivious to the sexy rock chick standing next to him/her. I mean, what was that all about?

Uhm, you act like she did you a big injustice personally by posting her stuff online. If you don't like her work, you don't have to look at it.

I really love her work. I've never purchased anything, but I think she captures Stevie better than any artist out there. And I definitely don't think her portrayals of Stevie come off as cold.

I would never buy anything from her, but I find it HILARIOUS that you italicized "dolphins." Funny stuff.

I'm a fan

I really like her work and have bought four prints from her back in 02 and still have them hanging up in my house. I had them framed and always get compliments. There are a few of her pieces that I am not found of but overall I think she's very talented. :xoxo:

I think she's talented. I do get sick of all the dolphins and wolves and ****, but I guess that's something she enjoys adding to her prints.

That's the part I usually don't care for in all the fan art. Enough with the unicorns already. Have you seen some of the fans' MySpace pages? The backdrops on the profile pages are filled with so much glitteries & twinklies that it makes you want to go immediately dust your countertops.

^ I can't even make it that far, I'm already into a seizure at that point. :distress:

the worst part of Myspace and the reason I deny a lot of friends. if you have twinkly **** that freezes up my computer and takes forever to load, I either deny the friend request or add them, but never leave them comments. :D

Don't worry, SSL, I'm totally with you on the utter non awesemic cheesiness of Johanna's work. Blerg, seriously, blerg. It reminds me of the art equivalent of eating too much cotton candy. Not that I've done that...hehehe....

I do enjoy the work, though, in that it has provided me with many laughs.
