Ever stuck your foot in your mouth??

and where did that expression come from, anyway?? gross.

This isn't about me, although I've done it plenty. PLENTY!!!

here's what happened.

This girl and I have been friends since the 3rd grade. She has two children-son 2 years old (name: satan) and a daughter-3 months old. Well, the three month old isn't a terror yet, but the other one. Oh God. This is the reason I don't want children. Anyway. We have a friend that adopted a son from Russia because they could not have children (because of her). IF (a big if) I ever do have children, I suppose her and my discipline skills would be the same. Strict and they WILL get spankings. Well, Sarah (the other friend with the yard ape children) is very laaaaaaid back. Doesn't get excited over much and basically doesn't do anything when they act up. They were eating lunch a couple of weeks ago, and Sarah (yard ape children) said to Shana (adopted child from Russia) "don't take this the wrong way, but don't you think if you can't HAVE children...that maybe you weren't meant to have them?"   OH. MY. GOD. Shana was telling me this story last night and I about fell out of my chair. We have all been friends since junior high and I can't believe she would say that to her. Not only once, but twice. I've said some pretty sh*tty stuff..but I don't think I've ever said anything like that. I can't understand that because I even offered to be a surrogate mother for them, but the Dr.s wouldn't let me do it because I had not had children yet and it could prevent me from having them later. HA. anyway....I was shocked. Still am. I'm going to try not to get in the middle of it, but it may be hard.

A couple of months ago Sarah''s son (yard ape) climbed all over my couches with chocolate all over his hands and took his little play toy truck across my dining room table that seats 8. I could have killed him but she just smiled because she was happy HE was happy.

sorry-just bitchin'. It's what I do best!!!

Ya know, I'm not the best mother in the world, and don't claim to be; however, my child is pretty well disciplined. She knows how to behave in public and at home. Not only is it rude and inconsiderate for Sarah to let her son run wild because it makes him happy, it's awful that she would even say something to that effect to Shana. Sounds like Sarah is someone I would like to slap the **** out of.

Is it any wonder that Sarah's kid is bad? It doesn't seem like she would set the best example for him.

I don't even think that's putting ones foot in ones mouth - I mean putting a foot in your mouth is more - you say something but realize it was wrong or stupid - this woman doesn't seem to realize that.

How infuriating!! I'm officially appalled!

skcin 11-06-2006 03:29 PM

Foot in mouth is an understatement. Either this bitch really wanted to feel superior to Shana & make her feel bad, or she's a complete dolt. Rude.

sparky 11-06-2006 03:30 PM

Clearly your pal is raising a monster and she is a silly bitch with no manners.

On the other hand, I don't disagree with what she said. I have often wondered about infertility in that manner. The body knows what it is doing. If you can't make your own kids, maybe the body is telling you something. Maybe you have bad genes. I think that's probably the reason for a lot of miscarriages too. That being said, I think your friend rocks for adopting. It's
far more admirable than breeding.

SuzeQuze 11-06-2006 03:38 PM

It's not legal to hit your kids, just saying. Maybe she's offended by that? HOW strict is this woman?

That said, your friend is WAY out of line saying what she said.

Is it illegal to spank kids ?

I am serious. I don't know.

I think so, I'm not sure there is a distinction for that. It's illegal to hit them. Strand?

Well, of course it is. BUT you're stating it in an intelligent way, then praising her for adopting. Her "friend" made it sound as if "well, you can't physically have kids so you shouldn't raise any." That's just dumb.

Yeah. Her friend is a douchebag.

jannieC 11-06-2006 04:59 PM

When my husband and I were going through infertility treatment, I used to hear **** like that all the time. People would say that, or say, "maybe God doesn't want for you to have children". To that I would say that since God gave me my brilliant infertility doctor, I beg to differ.

Whether it's true or not (and I don't think it is, but that's just me), it shouldn't be said to someone who is going through it. People are insanely insensitive, but you develop a thick skin. It's actually much more hurtful if it comes from someone in your family or someone you're really close with.

Btw Michelle, I'm glad your friend was able to adopt- that's awesome. We are going to adopt next year when I'm closer to finishing grad school.

I think she is jealous. Shana has been able to juggle motherhood and still have a life. Sarah on the other hand has been severely depressed. Her husband works on the railroad so she is home a lot with both of them by herself. Also her husband does not help at ALL even when he is home.

I know!!! well...this thread started out originally for people to post what they have done in the past (STILL is!!! ) but I got on this and couldn't help but give the whole story.

the whole thing is bad because I'm friends with both of them. I was told this in privacy, so it's not like I can actively be pissed at sarah. It's funny. Shana and I were NEVER good friends in High School. We just were friends with the same people. Sarah and I were always closer. Since I offered to be a surrogate mother for Shana, we have really become good friends. We even had a conversation recently about how we didnt' like each other in school.

It IS great!!! And I agree with everything else you said in your post

My thinking is....step away from Shana's side of it. If her statement is true-people who can't biologically have children, shouldnt'-does that mean that all the children who are given up for adoption should stay in orphanages until they are 18?

and even a step further...just because someone CAN have children-doesn't mean they should. So the crack whore prostitute that lives down the street (not MY street:lol: ) with every known STD and a few not named yet, SHOULD have children?? please.
