POLL: Best IYD song sans-Stewart

Since there aren't enough poll options for all the songs, I plan on doing a battle between the winner of best Dave Stewart collab against the winner of best song sans Stewart.

Should be an interesting way, as well, to put the songs into perspective and to inspire discussion (e.g., I noted how the last 5 songs of the album are 5 of the 7 Stewart collabs).

What's your favorite of the 7?

ETA: I am totally team Moonlight-Annabel Lee, so this is gonna be a very hard choice for me.

I was team moonlight annabel lee too :p
I chose moonlight

WildHeart69 05-11-2011 08:44 AM

I voted Moonlight, but For What Its Worth is a verrrry close second

TerraRhiannon 05-11-2011 09:40 AM

Between Soldier's Angel, New Orleans, Moonlight & Annabel Lee, this was almost an impossible feat to pick one of them. So I went with New Orleans cause I adore that song, & it had no votes :D

sorcerer999 05-11-2011 09:44 AM

Moonlight pour moi!

kak125 05-11-2011 09:57 AM

moonlight for sure!! i am in love with this song. its just so fantastic the entire way through.

If I Were You 05-11-2011 10:00 AM

I'm particular to For What It's Worth. Stevie sings with such emotion and passion on this song, especially when she sings, "you saved my life". When the Rollingstone stream came out I couldn't get past this song. I listened to it about 9 times before I forced myself to listen to the rest of the album. For me it's the stand out song that captured me from the first listen. I'll not forget the emotions I felt listening to this song the first time. It's great that I can share this with you all. Thanks.

Artemis 05-11-2011 10:01 AM

This poll might have the stronger selection of songs. Surprising. I'm torn between all of them apart from Secret Love (too pedestrian) and My Heart (Only awful son on the album).

tabruns 05-11-2011 10:10 AM

I voted for "Moonlight" which was an obvious choice for me but it was like choosing the giant among all the remaining really great songs. All of these songs are fantastic.

Christopher 05-11-2011 10:13 AM

This album is really so stunning that for the 1st 2 weeks I had no favorites, I had several favorites. Now after countless listens, Moonlight - not only is my favorite song sans-Stewart, it's risen and become my favorite on the album by a mile:nod:. Annabel Lee would be in my 2nd favorite tier that would include many tracks:D

I am so surprisingly smitten by this album. Not only do I think it is, by far, Stevie's best solo album... I think it MIGHT be my favorite Mac solo album of all time (sorry Lindsey, Jeremy, Danny, Mick!).

I figured you'd like the album's straightforward, rootsy nature. :D

I really wanted to pick SA but I am considering that a new BN song so between the others I chose FWIW but it was close. There are so many great things about these songs.

daniellaaarisen 05-11-2011 02:19 PM

I put "Moonlight" but "For What It's Worth" is a close close second.

jannieC 05-11-2011 02:19 PM

Moonlight is probably my favorite, but I voted for New Orleans because I love it SO much.

KarmaContestant 05-11-2011 02:23 PM

So glad to see For What It's Worth creeping up towards Moonlight. I love both songs.

belladonnadream 05-11-2011 02:40 PM

I voted for Moonlight... New Orleans a close second....

Chris_Sydney 05-11-2011 02:54 PM

Tough call, but I'm going with 'Moonlight' for the brilliance of the chorus.

Soldiers Angel with Moonlight a VERY close second.

I'm so happy there are a few of us who think that's a truly stand out track!

It's interesting to see For What It's Worth running neck and neck with Moonlight. I fully expected Moonlight to be the frontrunner as it's pure textbook Stevie to a nearly stereotypical degree. However, the love for For What It's Worth is surprising me. I figured most Stevie fans would be put off by the very folksy production and Street Angel esque vocals.

Keith 05-11-2011 05:57 PM

For What It's Worth.

Moonlight was my favorite from the start, then You May Be the One topped my list (and still does) .. but I voted for For What It's Worth in this poll.. I initially thought it was a beautiful song but I gravitated to others.. but in the last few days I've been mesmerized by this beauty of a song.. what took me so long? but I"m here now.. I not only love its simplicity and its words of longing and wondering what if.... but Stevie harmonizing with herself is just perfect and takes this song to that place where only Stevie can get to..

amazing.

WildHearted 05-11-2011 05:58 PM

For What It's Worth, without a doubt, for me.

Although it was hard to pick between that and Soldier's Angel.

TrueFaith77 05-12-2011 05:57 AM

I ultimately chose Moonlight over Annabel Lee.

TrueFaith77 05-12-2011 03:45 PM

Only 77 votes here. Poll will close 2 weeks from OP. Winner of this poll will duke it out with the winner of the sister poll here:

ETA: Interestingly, this poll is shaping up to be Moonlight vs. For What It's Worth

Ok, I can hear it already, now that I've admitted to really liking this album, I'm going to get accused of being a "shipper".

I voted "Soldier's Angel". With what sounds like Mick on drums, too, this is the best pseudo-Fleetwood Mac track on the album. (apologies to John's missing bass line) If we could get an ENTIRE FLEETWOOD MAC album produced by Dave Stewart and have him bring out this kind of Buckingham Nicks vocal blend throughout, it would be MIND-BLOWING!!!!

And, a close second in this category was/is "For What It's Worth".

Ok, disclaimer time...I'm just now (upon about my 25th listen through) starting to ATTEMPT to pick out my favorite tunes, but I'm not having an easy time of it. "WHY?" you ask? Ok, I'll tell you. I've gotten to think of this album as one complete statement/body of work in the same fashion that I look at Lindsey's Out Of The Cradle. Although I get pissed off at Prince for making his entire Lovesexy album just one track, Steve (& Dave) could've done the same with this album and FORCED people to listen to it that way.

Very insightful comparisons. And ITA about Lovesexy!

Drove me out of my mind and that was before I had a computer and could segment it myself.

Oh, PLEASE send them to me??? I don't have the software to do that. (After it came out I was wishing he would've just gone ahead & released The Black Album instead, because that one track just killed me...AND wore out my original CD player's "fast forward" button. )

(He did the same thing on his Beautiful People album, too.)

Michelle, I would love to hear Lovesexy as multi-tracks as well, but no pressure.

Chili: Which track on Black Album?

I don't really prefer Black album over Lovesexy; I wish he had somehow combined both impulses (as he did on Parade, and would on O+>)

michelej1 05-13-2011 12:05 PM

^Oh, I didn't segment it. What I meant in my post was that when I got it, I didn't have the option to do that, because I didn't even have a computer. Years later, when I got one, I wasn't even listening to Lovesexy any more.
