a bit of a confession....Peacekeeper
Ok, y'all know I'm dyed in the wool Fleetwood Mac fan from day 1 (or before)...I'm here to confess that I infinitely like Lindsey's own version of "Peacekeeper" more than the version on SYW. It's just slightly faster than the FMac version and seems to have a little more intenseness & power than the Mac-track.
Ya wit me, or ag'in me? |
I feel bad for it, but I have to agree with you. When Lindsey performs the song off his own bat, it's clearly evident that it was his own personal baby that just ended up being Fleetwood Mac fodder.
|
Well, I didn't mean to imply that the SYW version is "fodder", just that Lindsey's own version has a whole lot more "ooomph" to it and sonically is more in line with the lyrical content. The "edges" just seem ground off the FMac version.

The SYW version has Stevie and that makes ALL the difference. SYW Peacekeeper is superior.

I'm so not a chiffonhead. But it does make a difference. I find the SYW version more meaningful.

I don't believe I'm asking this, but can i hear the original version of Peacekeeper please?

Of all the GOS demos I like them more without the jammed in harmonies by Stevie. (I'm not laying the blame on Stevie though. Lindsey was the producer on most of them and so he had a big say in it.) |
I hate the fact Most of SYW is Lindsey wiith Stevie tacked on. Never sat right with me.

Yea I agree....and for the reason I stated SYW never sounded like a proper Mac album to me IMO.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/6cf56y...e%20Keeper.mp3 I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Lindsey's solo/demo version. I think it's a lot better than the SYW. Some songs I prefer with Stevie's harmonies added, but this isn't one of them! I love it when he harmonizes with himself, and this just sounds really cool with only male voices ( IMO ). -------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Lindsey's Peacekeeper...
 We agree with you Steve!!! Peacekeeper loses its powerful
nuances and the essence of a male voice to express its message! C. |
PeaceKeeper Preference
Just thought I would say Im a Lindsey Convert (used to be a Stevie Fan) but now Im a Die Hard Lindsey fan since 2003.
Had a listen to both versions, the only bit I feel is missing from lindseys version is that little drum roll about 3/4 of the way into the song (which is on the album version) I think lindseys is more intence and errie sounding but I think the Album version has more depth - as provided by the rest of the band. I think I prefer the SYW version - but only for micks little drum roll- thats intense :) DW |
Don't like the song that much, so don't have a preference.
I have always said that I like the solo version of My Little Demon better than the group version But that may not be exactly true. I guess I think The Dance version is fine and fun, but I think the solo version had a different meaning and mood and I would have liked to see that released. At the very least, he should do that version in one of his solo sets. Michele |

Lindsey's Lyrics !!!
:] Good girl Cassie!!! Peacekeeper was a Lindsey
only... solo tune! The lyrics come alive!!! Tacked on frivilous female vocalizing ruins the intent!!! C. |

Anyways, when I heard the original, I felt it was a more, for lack of a better word, manly song and to have female harmonies in it (as good as Stevie is, don't get me wrong, they sound great together) felt a bit odd. |
The solo versions also fits better in Lindsey vocal range due to its lower key. He sounds much more relaxed and less strained which I think benefits the song a lot. The harmonies are so much more lush and full too. Overall I think it just became a watered down pop song on Say You Will compared the intensity of the solo version.
|
I think both versions are really good but I do think that SYW as a whole was an album of missed opprotuities. Allot of Lindsey's songs should have been on solo albums because they didn't work as FM cuts. Murrow, Miranda, Come were songs that I felt were too experimental even for FM. I think the album would have done better if they had started from the ground up. Lindsey contributed some good songs but if you compare the other FM albums where he took some songs intended for solo releases and gave them over to Fleetwood Mac I think you will find much stronger material overall compared to what ended up on SYW.

The funny thing is, I'm a dyed in the wool chiffonhead, but I actually think Stevie's presence on the Say You Will version of Peacekeeper ruins the atmosphere of the song. Her voice is just reedy and nasally sounding, and totally pierces the vibe. It's just annoying to listen to. The original Gift Of Screws version seems more harmonious.
