Stevie's Best or your Fave Closing Song on a Solo CD

What do you think makes the best closing song on her solo efforts? What makes it the best you ask? Beats me - maybe just cuz you luv it :-)

louielouie2000 08-09-2010 01:12 PM

I chose Love Is. It's a super powerful song with extremely thought provoking lyrics. The vocal is gorgeous. The song leaves you yearning for more, and contemplating the ride you've just been on. I think it's a masterful closer.

Musicman408 08-09-2010 01:17 PM

I tend to like the slower more depressing songs as closers- so Love Is is it for me!!

HowStillMyLove 08-09-2010 02:11 PM

I choose Edge Of Seventeen, When your done listening to a CD you wanna be happy and not crying (im pathetic so i cry for beauty and the beast, and love is). So edge of seventeen isn't exactly the happiest song, but its a more upbeat song :)

The Highwayman, though it has never gotten much love here. For me, the other choices don't come close.

I agree! I also voted for The Highwayman. Such a perfect album closer. It really tells a story, more so than any of her other songs.

nailatixela 08-09-2010 03:16 PM

If we are talking about individual tracks, I'd have to pick BATB or Love Is. But if we are looking at the entire album, I'd have to pick The Highwayman. I think this song does the best job in really closing out the entire album. After listening to all of Bella Donna, The Highwayman is just the thing the album needs to be finished off so nicely.

But if I was just picking a song to listen to, I'd still rather hear Stevie weeping "la bete!"

GypsySorcerer 08-09-2010 03:59 PM

It's a toss-up between Love Is and The Highwayman for me. As a closer, however, I give the nod to The Highwayman. "And still they try again..." Perfect.

Agreed completely. I may be bias but I don't care.

Edge for sure. CV starts with Edge, which gets you in an extremely hyped up excited mood, which you need for I Can't Wait. The mood slowly gets deeper and darker the further you get into the album, with a few random bursts of energy. Then, you get to the ever amazing Leather and Lace to calm you down. And what a perfect way to end an album than to reenergize you with a kick ass version of Edge? You have now experienced Stevie Nicks.

i just think it is one of her most meaningful compositions, and reaaaaaaally closes the record

Artemis 08-10-2010 01:21 AM

Beauty and the Beast. The Wild Heart has both an amazingly powerful opening song, and a beautifully haunting closing song.

Wild Heart and BATB are the perfect bookends for what I'm starting to consider Stevie's most perfect album.

The Highwayman is best composition. Great ballad. I don't get the Love Is thing at all. I just think it's bland and anyone could of wrote it. I wonder if she would of closed with the Highwayman instead of Love Is if people would be championing that one. It baffles me.

Matthew 08-10-2010 05:41 AM

I picked Desert Angel, because I love her voice there. It´s great song.

I do think "Love Is" is very beautiful but I also think you're right - peeps seem to be jumping on the Love Is bandwagon right now. A big part of it has to be that she brought out this rare gem, however, like you said - had it been The Highwayman I think the reception would be the same.

Kudos to you for picking "Desert Angel." Had I not picked Has Anyone Ever.... Desert Angel would have been my choice. As I said many times about this song, Stevie's vocals on this are killer - so passionate, and the music, beautiful.

petep9000 08-10-2010 07:09 AM

I think all the albums were closed perfectly, I wouldn't change any of them. Well, maybe I would have tweaked HAEWAFY a little. But Stevie does a good job of sequencing, and she knows it too because she has mentioned it in interviews.

Heartboy 08-10-2010 08:06 AM

'Has Anyone Ever...' I had to pick that because 'Rock A Little' is my fave album!:D

DestinyRules 08-10-2010 08:28 AM

I went with "Edge of Seventeen" because I'd rather hear Stevie close out with a rocker.

Travis 08-10-2010 08:30 AM

Pete! Has Anyone Ever ... tweaked? Hell to the nah

Now all we need is for someone to give "Jane" some love.

Enchanted_Stevi 08-10-2010 08:39 AM

It was a tie between "Beauty and the Beast" and "Love Is", but I chose "Beauty and the Beast" its such a beautiful song and SOOOO intense!!

I like most of Jane, actually. And I'm no tweaker, LOL. I love the part of the song where she sings "There are angels here on Earth, sent from God..."
She sings it pretty earnestly, IMO.

holidayroad 08-10-2010 08:52 AM

I'll say 'Love Is', and it has nothing to do with the fact that she sang it recently. When I first heard the song, it really said something to me. I like HAEWAFY and Beauty and the Beast, as well.

michelej1 08-10-2010 12:45 PM

Love Is is really my favorite, but I had to give "I Still Miss Someone" some love.

Michele

Musicman408 08-10-2010 05:17 PM

You know, I totally adore Desert Angel- didn't even think about that!!

petep9000 08-10-2010 05:20 PM

I forgot about 'I Still Miss Someone'. LOL, when I think of Stevie's solo album I don't usually include OSOTM (sorry)

but I guess that song was as good as any to end that album. But the other albums all featured songs which I think closed them beautifully.

Batb

I picked Beauty & the Beast.....I don't mind it live but I actually like the LP version much better. The airy ,breathy quality about the song. (kinda like how much I love the way she sings on Tusk esp Sara, Storms etc. She had that airy quality that I so miss in her voice now.).....I do love The Highway Man as well but I do like the outtakes a little bit more. With Love Is I still think the demo is better its not so polished yet. I do like Has Anyone but I do think its missing something though can't put my finger on it.....I also love Desert Angel. That song always really got to me back in '91.....it'll have a special place in my heart always......just some thoughts.....:nod: Sorry my heading was suppose to be B&TB at the top for posting but I mispelled it....oops!!! LOL
Of the live versions of B&TB I still think I like the WH live versions the best........

SapphireSister 08-10-2010 06:27 PM

This is a re-post from the ballads thread...

To me, BATB is the most beautiful ballad of all time not to mention Stevie's top. Although Love Is is certainly another top for her and has gained some momentum with the fact that she's doing it live now nothing can possibly compare to the epic that is and will always be BATB. Also, we've had BATB for 17 years and who can forget those timeless WH performances of it and all the others over the years? The song still moves me like no other and brings me to tears after all these years and is both lyrically and musically the definition of music at it's highest level of greatness that could ever possibly exist!

Edit: Oh I forgot to mention HAEWAFY: Also a timeless classic with a moving story behind it and unbelievable live but just doesn't encompass the same power that BATB does but it is a truly magical song not to mention it was inspired by the love of her life...

And of course Storms deserves to be here without an argument.

Keith 08-10-2010 06:46 PM

alas..

he was the highwayman...

I've always loved this song and how it ends Bella Donna - to me, it's Stevie at her heartbreaking storytelling best... the imagery, the allusiveness, the wandering.. the dragonfly. Yet, you totally understand and feel her sadness. Beautiful ending... the end of the dream.

honorable mention to Beauty and the Beast..

Musicman408 08-11-2010 05:38 PM

I'm surprised Highwayman has such a HUGE chunk of votes!!

Especially considering how fast it got knocked off in the Bella Donna Survivor.
