I like how she says at the end, "It's better to have loved and lost..." That Stevie is a funny one. :woohoo:

Lala 05-19-2006 10:45 PM

Uh...

Oh how I wish I was that child.

Love the video! We all know Stevie's as high as the sky, but she is still classic and charming La Nicks. Gotta love her! :p

Better to have loved than lost. Im tired and drunk, those are lyrics to Affairs Of The Heart only right? Is there an old demo floating around?

It's from Tennyson, I think. Stevie may have been reading this Tennyson poem for many years before writing Affairs of the Heart. Plus, it's really a very common saying that everyone has stored away mentally somewhere--Stevie may not even be aware of the Tennyson connection.

i love it...i saw that a couple of weeks ago...too cute

I'm confused. What the hell is the story with this? Stevie just pulled some random child up on stage .... or is the girl related?

So confused. :confused:

Oh I checked out the video alright ... but I'm still confused!

I'll just put it down to Stevie being cool and accept it. :] That's wicked!

I don't think she knew the little girl, but I could be wrong. She looks kind of terrified at first, but then seems to be okay with the whole thing.

Me too! lol. I wonder what that Elaine girl has to say about it now...if she even remembers it.

Random child.

I didn't notice this for years, but someone (David, I think) brought it up here a few months ago that poor Elaine's shins get banged into the stage pretty hard on the way up. OUCH! She didn't mean to mind, though. :laugh:

I'm amazed by this little girl's composure. There are quite a few moments where Stevie is REALLY rockin out.

Yes, it's from In Memoriam A.H.H. Arthur Hallam was Tennyson's BFF who died suddenly in 1833. Tennyson spent the next seventeen years writing the poem, which is achingly sad and beautiful. It's very much worth the time, for those who have never read it: http://www.theotherpages.org/poems/b...ennyson01.html

Here's the section in question:

XXVII.

I envy not in any moods
The captive void of noble rage,
The linnet born within the cage,
That never knew the summer woods:
I envy not the beast that takes

His license in the field of time,
Unfetter’d by the sense of crime,
To whom a conscience never wakes;

Nor, what may count itself as blest,
The heart that never plighted troth
But stagnates in the weeds of sloth;
Nor any want-begotten rest.

I hold it true, whate’er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
’Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

Mageboy25 05-23-2006 05:39 AM

Whoever this Elaine girl is now today may not even know thats theres video of her and Stevie. Since I just finished watching Desperate Housewives lol, maybe Elaine is dead?
